Is there a list for all the updates or service packs?

Post by SyncroScales »

Just wondering if there is a list that explains the updates or service packs for Paint Shop Photo Pro X3 or other programs.

I found the page with the links to download. But just wondering about the other stuff. I assume it is just to make it more stable.

1) First, if you want a description of the things they fixed or changed just click on the patch name. It'll take you to an information page for that patch. Click the download link button to actually download and install it.

2) Which patches you need depends on if you have PSPX3 or PSPX3 Ultimate

Here's some quick info on which patches you need

Patches:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Patch #1 - No longer needed as it's taken care of by Patch #2. It only did minor fixes.

Patch #2 - Is a must. You have to have this one unless you have PSPX3 Ultimate.

PSPX3 Ultimate has all of the fixes provided by Patch #2 by default so it doesn't need it.

Patch #3 - Requires Patch #2 (or Ultimate) before you can install it. It fixes quite a few things though some of the changes to the plugin architecture has caused problems for a few plugins. It also introduced a few bugs but it's necessary for the next one.

Patch #4 - Requires Patch #3 to be installed before you can install this one. This one fixes most of the bugs introduced by Patch #3 (except for the plugins).

Finally there is a small fifth patch that isn't currently listed in the patches because it's not done yet. The fifth patch only fixes one big issue and was released only through the knowledgebase to fix this problem until the official fifth patch is released.

Patch #5 - Fixes what has been called the "Selection bug" where if you defloat a selection or use "merge down" a line of pixels is deleted. You can download it from this article: Patch #5 - Selection Bug

Will Patch 5 also correct the bug where we keep getting prompted for a non-existent installation file under certain circumstances?
PSP is prompting for re-installation. See: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=40639

I don't know if the fifth patch will when it's finally released or not. But the current fifth patch beta seems to only guarantee to fix the "Selection bug."

I hope it does. SP3 broke it and it would be nice if they could get it fixed. I frequently use the functions that trigger that bug, so I've only upgraded to SP2 as a result.

@ronrosenfeld

What exactly are you doing when the "non-existent installation process" kicks in? If you can provide more information on your problem, then we can give a solution if it was already posted here.

The link that you included in your post is for the DetectLanguage Failure problem and we already have a solution for that. You can visit: http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... o-Photo-X3 for the solution.

Well, I do not believe I have the the same problem; I've never received the Detect Language failure message nor the error 1402.
Also, I just checked the registry entry referenced and Lang contains EN as stated in those instructions.

Simone had confirmed that it was a problem, and that it has not been fixed as yet, last March if I recall correctly.

I get the issue after certain tasks and reported this some time ago. If you can, see [Incident: 110322-000229]. It occurs, for example, if I try to email selected pictures. The Windows installer opens and runs for a while, and eventually gives an error message that it cannot locate the *.msi file. (There is no *.msi file on my system). If I cancel, the installer will show Error 1706 and re-run; if I cancel, and then cancel when it starts to re-run, the original task will be accomplished normally. But this problem will recur on subsequent runs of the program.

There were other tasks that would also trigger this, but I don't recall them.

This is what Simone wrote in the referenced thread on March 19:
Simone Corel UK wrote:We are investigating in this error at the moment. This loading error also affects sending images via e-mail.
You can to stop the loading process at the beginning by clicking again and again on the "Cancel" button.

We do apologise for this error which came up with SP 3. SP 4 was already finished and didn't contain a solution for this error.
I went through the process of completely uninstalling and reinstalling PSPX3 several times, and eventually determined that this error arose after installing SP3. And this is the problem I have been waiting for a fix.

Thanks LeviFiction for this information which I was looking for!
One more question:
I'm using Finnish language version of PSPX3 (not Ultimate). Service pack descriptions for sp 3 and 4 mention Finnish language support, but this is not mentioned in sp 2. Do you (or anyone else) know if it is safe to install them all? (service packs 2-4). Has anyone done so to other-than-english version of PSPX3?

With Patch number 5, the not finished one: Is it a problem to install it and then intall SP5 when it comes out? I don't want to install it yet.

I suppose the people who installed it will let us know if it works when SP5 is officially released...

There is no reason for SP5 to not install properly. Since the partial patch doesn't update the version of PSP the installer should indiscriminately replace all files that it wants to patch with their new versions.

That is of course, assuming there is a fifth patch. It's been quite a while since the fifth patch was promised (though it took a very long time for the third patch to come out as well) and certain words by Corel officials have given the suggestion that the patch may or may not be forth coming. Whether they intended to give that impression or not we don't know. So we wait. But there is no reason to assume that the fifth patch will be stopped by this partial version based on how patches work. You should be fine.
