Inserting photo in Video Track

Post by budbon »

I am putting together a biographical video of my wife and myself for our kids (married 50 years). I want to have a video of her (example) sitting and talking about growing up. Is there a way to insert a photo on the main video track and still keep the voice track intact? Example: She is talking about her childhood. A photo apears of her as a small girl while she is still talking. The photo goes away after a few seconds and there she is live and taliking. I hope to get away from using the overlay track.

Hi

The easiest way is to use the overlay track.

1 / Insert your image to the overlay track, set its duration.
2 / Re-size and position the image.
3 / Using the “direction and style” choose Fade In / Out
4 / Adjust the fade durations by dragging the trim handles immediately below the preview screen.

5 / In addition applying a Chroma Mask Frame will give better results.

You can get away from the overlay track but is more involved.

Cut the main video at the points that the image will be.
Split audio for that section.
Replace the Video with Image file.
You may need a transition, fade in / out but this may affect the audio sync’

I would not split the video at all - I would keep it and it's soundtrack complete - when you put a photo in the overlay track it covers the video while the soundtrack continues.

I was hoping to be able to cut the video track and take out a section without the other two sections coming together. In other words leaving a blank spot of 5 or 6 seconds. Can't do it huh? I figured I could split the audio, take a section out of video and insert a photo in the blank area.

You can if you put your video in the overlay track, leaving the video track empty.

You don't need a blank space in the video track to put a photo in between the video (if you want to do it that way) - if you cut the video and remove a bit the two ends will move together - but if you drag and drop a photo over the join the the two pieces of video will slide apart to make room for the photo - thats just the same way as when editing video if you want to insert a different piece of video you just drop it over a join and the other pieces move aside.

If at any time you want a blank space in the top track just cut the video and drag and drop a black colour block onto the join.

you do not need to put your photo in the top video track - if you put it in the first overlay it will 'cover' the video while the sound track continues, you can then make the photo fill the screen or just have a slightly smaller "picture-in-video" effect.

Hi

If you wish to use only the top track for your image file

Cut the video clip where the Image is required. (your wife talking about growing up)
Right click the clip and select “Split Audio” this will place the audio file in the voice track. This is what you required.
Right click the clip again and select “Replace Clip-Photo
Browse the hard drive for the image file.

I still think its easier to use the overlay track, your choice..........
