Red eye removal

Post by Phil »

Hi

I used a video light in lower light conditions to take an HD video (in AVCHD) which will be rendered to PAL SD DVD. Unfortunately the main speaker has red eye. Can my VSP x3 help remove this?

Worried.

If anything, it would probably be a filter to do it. I don't have X3 on this machine, so I looked up NewBlue FX and don't see any such filter.

I'm not familiar with any video filter for removing red-eye. There is one way that you could do it, but I seriously doubt you will want to take the massive amount of time it will require......;)

With your video in the timeline, nothing else, you will want to repair the red-eye first before doing any other editing. Go to Share>Create Video File>Custom. For the File type, click on the drop-down menu for Save as Type, select Ulead Image Sequence files (*.uis). Next press the Options button. In the Video Save Options dialog you can change the format type. The default is BMP (Bitmap), you can change it to one of the various other photo formats. I would recommend leaving it as Bitmap, since it is a loss-less format. Have you figured out where this is headed????

VS will then created images, and a UIS file. Depending on how long your video clip is, and what your frame rate is, will determine how many images will be created. Then you can open each one in your photo editing program, and adjust the red-eye. When you're finished (next year sometime... ) Then open VS again, go to insert video and select the UIS file, which will then import all those images as a video clip again.

You could also use Adobe After Effects CS5, which allows you to create a tracking mask. The tracking mask would be for the area of the eyes. You then desaturate the eyes.
