I did some filming today, using my Canon 5D MK II, converted the MOV files to AVI using NEOscene, then ran them through smart proxy in Videostudio PRO X3. When I started editing, I noticed some files were causing the project to freeze and stutter on playback. On closer examination I noticed that about 10 of the 40 or so files had not had smart proxy files created, and that all of these were above 1GB in size. Is this a glitch, or is it just something Videostudio can't do for files that large?

For what its worth, I don't seem to have this problem with files over 1GB.

What specific CODECs were involved in your MOV and AVI files? We would be especially interested in the AVI properties since this is what you inserted into VS. With one of them in the timeline or library, right-click on it, select properties and post them here.
VS has been know to have problems with some MOV files. This could also be due to the version of QuickTime Player installed. What version of Q.T. Player are you using? You can go to the Earlier QuickTime Player Versions sticky at the top of this forum, which has a link to where you can download earlier versions.

Re: Smart proxy not working on files over 1GB
They aren't MOV files any more, I used neoscene to convert them to AVI so they can be edited easier, and properly. No matter what settings I used with the MOV files originally I wouldn't get a good render, so I purchased neoscene.
I have made several videos where the clips are several seconds long and timing wasn't too important, so the choppy playback wasn't too necessary. This new video I making has/is going to have lots and lots of clips; some of only several tenths of a second.

Re: Smart proxy not working on files over 1GB
It appears that the video was encoded using cineform HD Codec, which is proprietary video codec developed for CineForm Inc [1] by David Newman and Brian Schunck.
That could be the reason why there where no smartproxy files created for your videos. One work around that you can do is to use Super converter to convert the .mov video to AVI. You can download SUPER from http://www.erightsoft.info/GetFile.php?SUPERsetup.exe

Re: Smart proxy not working on files over 1GB
It does create smart proxy files, it just doesn't do it for files over 1GB it appears.
Also, I have just tried creating a smart proxy file using one of the original MOV files and it does it?!? I can't use these though, because Videostudio doesn't like HD MOV files very much.
