Re: Brand new VideoStudio X4 book available
I am working on a list of error fixes for the book. Check back here in about a week and I'll tell you how to get it. I hope to add it to the lesson files downloads, but will send it out personally to anyone who requests it too.
Best Regards,
Marc

Re: Brand new VideoStudio X4 book available
Hi i am new to video editing, so after purchasing VideoStudio Pro X4 i thought there would be an abundance of books on video editing but not so. When i came across Marcs book i was so pleased. Purchased the book and found it just what i was looking for. Only problem i am getting is downloading the lesson files. Each time i download them the same problem arises. The film clip DC2 will not open. there seems to be something missing from the files makeup. The clip i am on about is found in Video>WashingtonDC>DC2. How can i get hold of this clip. I need it to follow the tutorial. I have emailed a few people at cengage.com and left message on Marcs facebook. Is this the last chance Saloon. Help

Good suggestion Ron. I too had the same issue with the DC2 clip. I have emailed Marc tonight and we will wait and see what he has to say.

Re: Brand new VideoStudio X4 book available
I have also found that the DC2 clip has become corrupted. Until I can get the publisher to replace it, which I'm working on, send me an e-mail to marcbech@austin.rr.com and I will respond with how to get a replacement.

Re: Brand new VideoStudio X4 book available
Hey Local Austin Boy, I'll definitely buy the book. Will it tell me if i can render one video that is playable on both PC, MAC, Iphone and other mobile devices? I need to send out sports video to coaches - and they all have different viewing mechanisms. Any Advice?
Thanks

Hi Barbara,
Yes, VideoStudio will create specific files for smartphones and all video types for Macs and PCs, including Quicktime (playback on both). What's nice about it is that you choose the destination and VS will create the appropriate file for it. You won't need to know all the technical details. You could also create and send a video to YouTube all from within VS. Any device can access a Youtube video! And you can set up your YouTube video so only folks who have the url can view it (private mode). It's all explained in the book.

Hello Marc,
On page 267 you wrote that "AVCHD videos can be burned to regular blank DVDs and played back on regular DVD players".
This is in contrast to what I have learned in this forum that even the AVCHD video is burned on regular DVD, I still need a blu-ray player in order to view it in the HDTV.
Please clear this issue.
Regards,
Abraham

Re: Brand new VideoStudio X4 book available
I'm going to respond to the last two posts in this one.
To mitcs0ke, It looked the download site had issues yesterday, but I just finished downloading the files this morning as a test and everything seems to be fine.
To Abraham,
Creating an AVCHD DVD does not require a Blu-ray player, and can be created using regular DVDs. I've done it multiple times. AVCHD uses a higher sampling rate than regular DVDs, but not a different burning mechanism like Blur-ray. Hence AVCHD discs can be created on standard DVD burners and played back on standard DVD players.
I hope this helps,
Marc

Re: Brand new VideoStudio X4 book available
They can certainly be created on standard DVD burners, but I am afraid I strongly disagree with the latter statement. I have tried playing hybrid discs back on a number of different stand-alone DVD players, and all give either a 'No disc' or 'Invalid Disc' response. This does not surprise me since the video files of a hybrid disc are in AVCHD format, which a DVD player cannot read, and moreover they are encased in a BDMV folder which a DVD player is simply not designed to recognise. A DVD player looks for a DVD structure which is a Video_TS folder. It can usually play mpeg-2 and mpeg-1 files burned as data files, but as I say, it cannot play AVCHD mpeg-4 files.Hence AVCHD discs can be created on standard DVD burners and played back on standard DVD players.

Re: Brand new VideoStudio X4 book available
Ok, I think I've realized how I was playing back my AVCHD discs. I was playing them back on my laptop (w/o Blu-ray capabilities) but displaying them on my HDTV, via an HDMI cable.
So, I was playing them back on a non-BDMV player (my laptop), not my stand-alone standard def DVD player.
My apologies for my confusion. Your feedback, Ken?

What was the software player used on your laptop?

Re: Brand new VideoStudio X4 book available
Most likely it was Win-DVD. I now have a laptop that does create/playback Blu-ray disks, so I can't test whether it was the software, but I do know that the laptop I had before was AVCHD capable, but not blu-ray.
