Brand new VideoStudio X4 book available

Post by LocalAustinBoy »

Hey Folks,

I want to let you know that a brand new learning book on VideoStudio X4 is now available on Corel's e-store and on Amazon.com. I authored it. It contains 300 pages of learning and lessons that will guide the beginner and intermediate user through just about every single feature in VSX4. Lesson files can be downloaded from the publisher's website.

Check out the Amazon page for a table of contents and a look inside the book. It's the only VSX4 book available on Amazon. The book is called “Picture Yourself Making Creative Movies with Corel VideoStudio Pro X4”. The book is also available in an e-read format for iPad, Nook or Kindle.

I'd be curious to know if you worked closely with Corel on this book and were able to document some things NOT in the Corel manual such as where changes in the burning module actually get saved to and other obscure topics that have never been covered.

I did work very closely with Corel and did include many non-documented features, work-arounds and tips, but you won't find too many obscure items like what you mentioned. This book is really designed for newer and intermediate users as I tried to appeal to the largest audience.
Thanks for your inquiry,
Best,
Marc

Thanks for the tip on the book. Just sent in my order for one and from what I can see by the look inside, there is much I can learn even after having used Ulead products back from Version 4 I believe was the first one I used. Can't wait to get it and let you know what I think about it! :?:

The book arrived today and it is beautifully packaged. :D I can't wait to jump into it this weekend and see what I have been depriving myself of and I will let the forum know what I think of it as soon as I have had time to put it to use. Thanks again for the tip! Be well

Awesome DBZ!
I hope you enjoy it and pick up some good tips! I just started going through the finished version myself and am finding quite a few proofreading errors (missing commas, periods etc), which really disappoints me and is the fault of the publisher. Hopefully the learning content will make up for it. Be sure to start getting the files from the Cengage website, mentioned on page 1. There's a lot and even though most are SD (for size reasons) vs. HD, they still take awhile to download.

But yes, let me know what you think of it otherwise! Have fun!

I had 5 or 6 computer books published back in the 1980's when computerized publishing was in its infancy.
I was amazed at the number of proofing errors in my books. Since they never sold enuf for a 2nd printing they were never corrected. I hope your book sells enough to get the errors corrected next printing. But, by then there will likely b an X5 or whatever the next version is.

Thanks Marc!
I am a retired teacher and I find that I can live with a few typing or grammatical errors as long as the content is decent. My comments on the book will definitely NOT be about errors, but substance. I will keep you posted. Still I think you did a great job so far. Be well. :D

I have just bought the book on Amazon and am very pleased. I have been using VS for a few years but there is a lot I did not know in 4X. The only thing I would have liked is more information on each filter type and practical use of some of these filters, but I guess that's for another book Marc!! :P I have not downloaded the tutorials as yet but looking forward to working through them, well don Marc.

Thank you for all the great comments and great suggestions! You're all very kind. I have found some technical and reference errors also that weren't caught. I thought I would mention them here for your convenience.

Page 41: Last sentence in green should reference Chapters 7 & 8, not chapter 6.
Page 42: Top of 2nd column should reference Figure 3.19. not figure 3.20.
Page 46: (N): It should read "Locked tracks WILL move. Unlocked tracks will NOT move to the right as content is inserted"....
Page 49: Step 4: Should be "Follow that with clips V17 and V08". The current order is backwards.

Man, I wish I could've reviewed this once more before it got printed. I'll mention more as I come across them. Make sure you've set the option to be notified with each new comment.

I love this book and I bought several books prior to this one back when MediaStudio was alive and well. This book with the color layouts and explanations are very well done. Thanks for the "heads up" on a few misprints, but that should not deter anyone who is really interested in seeing what this software can really do from taking a look and I think the investment was well worth the money...at least for me! Thanks Marc! We owe you one! :D

I too have just purchased a copy of the book and read it from cover to cover. It certainly explains the whys of a few things I did not previously understand. It beats me why, with anything to do with computers, program makers only explain how to do something but rarely why you would want to do it. They seem to leave this to be tackled by others and, until now, I have not found the book dedicated to Videostudio, while many other video editing programs have a number of books to cover their finer points.

While it is infuriating to you as an author, I would not be too concerned about the typos etc. I don’t think any book has ever been printed exactly how the author intended.
