MPEG 4 Problems
I downloaded the trial version of VideoStudio 4 Pro to try it out and I like the interface and the ease of use. My problem is that when I capture MPEG 4 files in the timeline and go to replay them, the sound and video are very choppy and the replay skips the whole way through. I converted the mpeg 4 files to wmv, and the video was smooth but I lost some of the image clarity in the converting process. I don't think it's my computer because the mpeg 4 files play nicely on MediaPlayer - just not on VideoStudio. I really like the program and want to use it for my upcoming trip to Alaska. What am I doing wrong?

Re: MPEG 4 Problems
Can't comment on whether you have enough processing power as you haven't filled in your pc details. Editing is different to playing.
What happens if you do a little edit, save out the movie and watch that? Does it play smoothly or with jumps?

Re: MPEG 4 Problems
Just updated the stats on my system. Hope I listed it right. Skier- It doesn't matter whether I edit or just play it. It still skips. I've been spending the entire morning trying to figure this thing out and from what I've read - MPEG4 is a problem with alot of editing software. Does anyone else have this problem?

Re: MPEG 4 Problems
Wow !
I'm experiencing the same kind of trouble and i thought it was about .mts files. I converted them to .avi and to .wmv without more success. When i play them as clips they're OK but when i do as in project mode, it's slow ,choppy and the sound doesn't follow as it should. All my .avi and .wmv files are playing OK all the way, i only have trouble with these .mts ones that i have been given for this project. I already spent sometime on this issue without any success.
Anyone knows about this ? Thanksssssssssss !!!!!!!!!

Re: MPEG 4 Problems
It all runs good when I use ProShow Producer but Corel offers more editing features for video...that's why I gave it a try. Only thing I can think of is that Corel cannot handle MPEG 4 files.

Re: MPEG 4 Problems
slylang -- looking at your computer specifications, it seems to be an older model, possibly a Pentium IV. If so, it is simply incapable of handling .mts files, either playing them smoothly, or editing them. Those .mts files are high definition AVCHD mpeg-4 files, and require at the very least a decent Core 2 Duo, or preferably something even more powerful, to handle them correctly.

Re: MPEG 4 Problems
Hello Ken !
You're Right ! It's a Pentium 4, Intel 3ghz. It's funny though because i transfered those .mts files to .avi and .wmv ?!!! But what do i know ! I just went looking and my .mts file is 734 Mo and my wmv file is 639Mo. Anyway, i guess i'll just forget about this interesting small project i took since i won't change my computer. Well i really want to thank you very much for this information, it's a good feeling to have someone out there answering.
Wish you a nice week-end.

Re: MPEG 4 Problems
Conversion from .mts to another format is not so much a problem, though probably would have been slow. But it is editing and rendering as another .mts/m2ts which is impossible... though you could just possibly use SmartProxy if your Pentium IV has hyperthreading...

Re: MPEG 4 Problems
The point with transfering from .mts to .avi or .wmv is that i thought they might work while editing (you're also right, they were slow). Regarding Smart Proxy, it's the first thing i went to... without any noticable trace of improvement. I just tried again last night and the file i experienced with doesn't appear in the Smart proxy file manager or smart proxy queue manager !... though i can find it in : "D drive, Corel video studio pro file, 14.0 file, Smart Proxy file". The video proxy file is a .UPX file that windows cannot open. I guess it's ok with the program anyway. I think though that the file should appear in one of the two managers, am i wrong ? I really did follow instructions wich are quite clear and simple it seams. I do have hyperthreading so i cross my fingers... just a bit.
Thanks again Ken !
