video camera's?

Post by brucefl »

Hi, this may not be the best place to ask. But, I know several use different cameras. Hopefully it is ok to ask here. I have VSX3 and am looking for a possibly an HD video camera that is
good and not too expensive ( I know saying that is relative). I would like it to be able to use an external audio souce.
I want to try and record some church services to put on the local broadcast station, so I want to be able to plug possibly a wireless mike that will broadcast to the camera maybe 30-50 feet away so you do not
get a lot of noise. I know professional camera's are best, but with newer cameras they do a fairly good job.
I know Canon models have the most accessiblily for mike jacks. Lot of knowledge on this board (at least I think) so I figured I would ask.
Yes, I know I will probably get a lot of opinions, right now all I have is mine.
Thanks for any direction you can help me with.

As you say, price is relative. You are not going to find many consumer models that allow the connection of an external mic.

I have a Canon XH-A1s. Not inexpensive. Shoots in SD (DV-AVI) or HD (MPEG-2) in superior quality that is also super easy to edit. Mic(s) can be connected via 2 XLR inputs, again producing excellent quality (depending on the mic, of course).

Hey Bruce.....I've been to Milly Knockit......nice in the summer, cold/snowy in the winter BUT is nice/quiet place to be. :D

I'd suggest something like a Panasonic TM900:

OR http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/8 ... order.html

I'd also suggest purchasing something like the RODE Stereo Video MIC. I have one and they're great.

Most of the Canon camcords over $600 have external mic inputs (and manually adjustable levels) BUT their accessory shoe is proprietary and won't fit the vid mic w/o and adapter.

Feel free to PM me with additional questions.

I am thinking of buying a Canon Vixia S20. I am using Pro X3. Should capturing video from this camera with Pro X3 work fine? Generally I am sharing projects to WMF 720p files so they fit on YouTube.

Thanks,
Candy
