Sound problem with mov files

Post by Berzelius »

I have VideoStudio 11.0.0157.0 Plus running in a Virtual PC (as Win XP) inside 64-bit Win 7 Professional.

I have a number of mov clips produced using a Panasonic Lumix TZ6 camera which I am trying to burn as a DVD. The properties of the clips are listed at the end.

The video quality is OK. However there are problems with the sound. When I preview a single clip the sound is normal but when I preview as Project I get very brief bursts of sound followed by silences. The same problem appears with the finished DVD - the video is OK but the sound is lost except for very brief (well under a second) bursts.

Using Windows Movie Maker to convert the mov files to wmv files produces clips that work in VideoStudio but the quality is degraded and the final DVD (16x9) does not fill the screen.

Is there any way to solve this problem?

The Panasonic audio problem has been talked about a lot lately. Not sure if a fix has been determined. Do a search for "Panasonic Audio" and I'm sure you'll find the threads.

Thanks for the reply. However, would it be possible to supply any links to any possible work-arounds? I've tried searching for Panasonic audio (or sound) problems but all I could find were a couple of posts describing the same problem as mine but with no information on how to solve it. I've even tried Advanced Search without any success.

Sorry, as I said I didn't know if a fix had been determined.

OK, I've worked out a work around, the only problem being that it must set some sort of record for being long-winded and time consuming!

Firstly I played the clips one after the other in WMP and recorded the audio using Audacity. I then used Audacity to remove blank spaces and divide the track into sections corresponding to the clips. I then saved these tracks as wav files. I could have saved it as one long track but I thought it better to divide it as I could then visually check whether the audio corresponded to the video.

I then opened the project in VideoStudio & put the wav files into the Audio library. I then dragged these audio files into the Music track and checked whether they looked aligned with the video clips.

I then silenced the original audio track (but see below) and burned the DVD. This was only a 3 clip trial and it seemed to work OK - the DVD had audio.

I could do with a bit of advice on the best way to silence the original audio. The only way I knew was to go into Audio mode and then drag down the handles at the ends of each clip. I suspect that there must be an easier way of silencing the original audio in one go. Even better would be a way to delete the original audio track and insert my new one.

This method is obviously only suitable for very short projects - mine is 5 minutes of a birthday party with only 24 clips, plus it's mainly sounds of merriment and voices without faces so I don't have to particularly worry about lip syncing.

Hi

I had a Lumix TZ5, now updated to TZ8.
It creates video to Photo Jpeg HD 1280 x 720, very good quality.
I did not recognise the frame size you give as 848 x 480, but have viewed my camera and it is (wvga)
Not used that size although it does appear to be widescreen?

I have no problems with audio using the Linux TZ 5 or TZ8 camera.

However I had an issue with Mov audio using Video Studio X3. (all mov from any source)
But I doubt if this is the same problem, View my You Tube video, first part plays in clip mode followed in project playback.

On the good side the rendered file does not show the problem, at least not for me.
So you should be able to convert the audio using Video Studio
How…………
Place clip in timeline, Share Create Sound File.
File saved to Hard Drive, thumbnail placed in library, drag this to timeline below video.
Mute video clip.

You could of course try rendering the files to a different format, then edit them.
Try Batch Convert to DVD properties.

Burning to DVD
Your TZ6 video uses 30 fps, when you burn a DVD this will be changed to 25fps.
Not a big issue but the quality will reduce a little. Nothing much you can do about that anyway.

I don't have VS 11.5+ on this computer, but it is much the same for all versions. When you are in edit mode, to the right of the bottom right of the preview screen, there should be a little digital clock, and to its right a 'Clip Volume Control' with a little loudspeaker icon and '100' showing in the window by default. You can set this to 0 to mute the audio. Or simpler still, click on the icon to its immediate right -- a louspeaker with a cross through it which, logically enough, is the Mute button. Unfortunately, though, this still has to be done clip by clip.

Just to say that I finally succeeded in getting a workable DVD. A couple of points that might be of interest.

1) Searching the forum I found that a rapid method of deleting the original sound in a clip was to right click it and select Split Audio and then delete the split audio track.

2) What became blindingly obvious with 20-20 hindsight was that my original plan of putting all the new audio clips below the video clips went badly wrong when I put transitions in! What I did to solve this problem was to treat each video clip as a new project with it's corresponding new audio clip and produced an mpg file (with project properties) in Share. This had a minor bonus in that any editing could be done as each mpg file was produced and a major bonus in that producing the iso file was now much more rapid. It was time-consuming but effective.

Well, it doesn't really delete the audio track. It simply mutes the video track and puts a copy in the audio track.

Hi

As far as I know rendering the project is ok, try “share create video file-DVD” the resultant file should be ok.

X4 does not have this problem, there have been no patches for X4, what happens when they provide the first patch is??????????
