I am trialing Corel Video Studio Pro 4 and have the following problem.
With any clips in the timeline stereo sound plays without any problems with either clip or project selected, even with the Mixer window open.
If I select 5.1 sound all clips play without a problem with clip or project selected, except when I open the mixer window. the sound is then extremely jerky and the programme crashes.
I would appreciate some assistance in solving this problem.

Re: 5.1 Sound Problem
Can you post the properties of the video? To help us determine that the problem is. I try recreating your problem but it did not happen on my end.

Re: 5.1 Sound Problem
Can you also tell us whether you are actually trying to play 5.1 in the audio of a video clip, or is it still 2 channel stereo which is struggling to fill the 5.1 channels?

Re: 5.1 Sound Problem
I thank you for the replies.
My sound card is a Creative Sound Blaster Live!value, I downloaded and installed LiveDrvUni Pack drivers and the problem has now changed.
I select 5.1 sound, with the mixer window open or closed, when sound is played it sounds like a machine gun.
I press play, pause and sometimes about 5 times, other times 20 odd the sound will play OK at 5.1.
The tracks can be AVI MPEG2 etc, all have the same issue.
If I use a stereo audio file, the same thing will happen.
When the 5.1 starts to work and I save the file each time I reload the file it works OK.
If I add clips to the video it is still OK.
I shutdown the programme restart and start a new project back to the machine gun sound, then press play, pause etc, the sound will finally come good.
I have not progressed to burning a DVD with 5.1 sound to check the output.
It appears the programme is selecting an incorrect codec.
I would appreciate your further advise.

Re: 5.1 Sound Problem
Hi
I have just run a few test renders using an assortment 3D, Digital Dolby 5.1
Source files 1920 x 1080 and standard Mpeg2.
All tests completed without problems, no crashes.
----------------------------------------
Have you registered the software with Corel, log-in to your account and you should find a support section with contact details.
There will also be your pin number used when contacting Corel.
Video Studio X4, have you applied all Update Patches (Service Packs)?
Quick Time Player
Some users have had random problems/crashes, installing an earlier version has cured some issues for some. Try QT version 7.5.5
---------------------------------------
Codec packs, have you ever installed codec packs to your pc? Codec packs can cause more trouble than they fix?

Re: 5.1 Sound Problem
lata,
Thanks for the info.
My software was registered previously.
I was signed in, I filled out the form (it does not ask for my pin anywhere) press submit, the screen changes to another window and displays "Case creation fail".
This was tried 5 times with the same result.

Re: 5.1 Sound Problem
Hi
You mention installing drivers for your sound card, are you sure you have installed the correct drivers.
Do you have the original support disc that came with the card.
I assume you are still running XP?
Some info on Wikipedia
Corel
They have been updating their web site so maybe the support links do not work.
Abiel Corel NA regularly visits the board, maybe he can help?
