Can't import chapter marks?

Post by maxblack »

Can someone please confirm for me: despite that MF6+ can import a DVD by individual chapter selection, and it certainly knows where all the chapters are because when you go to Import a VIDEO_TS it will display Titles and the Chapters within them for checking-off, there is no way to have MF6+ retain those chapters once added to your project? You have to find and add the timecodes by hand?

This seems very odd to me and I'm hoping someone knows a secret .ini setting or registry setting or some magic in the Edit Room to be able to have it automatically keep these chapter marks.

BTW do either of v7 or v2011 include this feature?

Sorry for the extreme delay with anyone replying. It does appear that DVD MF does not retain the imported chapter cues. I've tried on a few different DVDs and VIDEO_TS folders. In the Add/Edit Chapters, if the Add Scenes as Chapters is not active, ie; greyed out, then it will not correctly add the chapters.

I was with you (your having agreed there was "no way") and then this statement confuses me. Can you clarify?

I know that you can ask DVDMF+ to auto-add chapter marks based on scene changes, which on the surface seems to be a nice feature, but really it can only work for home movies i.e. videos with long, long (read "boring") intervals between.

I've done some videos where I added the Chapter cues in VS. The project was rendered to MPEG-2 to be burned on DVD. I've used DMF 6 & 7 to author and burn the DVDs. In DMF I selected Add scenes as chapters, and it used the chapter cues as the scenes, which gave me the chapters I had set up in VS. I don't label the chapters in VS, those are lost, and I must rename them in DMF.
