I am operating from the Netherlands which is PAL. As a faithful upgrader ever since Ulead 5 I have now installed VideoStudio X4 after upgrading from XP to Windows 7. All works fine except the capture which sticks to NTSC and therefore protests against incompatible video formats.
I reinstalled to make sure PAL settings are OK. Also tried VBCleaner.exe-reboot-reinstall. Project settings are on PAL. Preferences are on PAL but when capturing from a Sony digital cam (also PAL) the video options are NTSC only and not changeable.
When reinstalling I notice my serialno isn’t asked again. So it seems info seems to stay on the system or in the registry about the previous installations somewhere. I guess I need a real wipe?
Who can help me out?
PS. I always buy my upgrades on the Corel US website (previous Ulead). Could that make a difference as the US is a NTSC country and my downloaded version is a bit more NTSC ?

Hi Wouter
and welcome to the forums......
As far as I know when we re-install X4 Video Studio always requests that you select the country or Pal system.
If you do not change the default then NTSC will be used.
As a quick test…
1 / Insert a clip to the timeline
2 / Go to Share-Create Video File---DVD---DVD Video (4:3)
I see the properties panel showing:-
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo
Can you confirm that you see (DVD-PAL),

Thats correct DVD-PAL shows. As it also does in the project properties and the preferences.

Hi
Can you give more details regarding your camera?
Make and Model--- Is it a Mini DV type ?
How are you connecting the camera to the PC?
What capture format are you choosing?

Re: On PAL system capturing sticks to NTSC
Thanks for your quick reply!
Camera's are both Sony : 1) DV DCR-TR8000E PAL and 2) a HDV cam HDR-HC3E. So both E models set to PAL.
Linked through firewire. My Desktop is a Dell 5150 with an additional PCI card for firewire connectivity.
The cams are seen by Win7 and listed correctly.
The capture format provides only the whole range of NTSC choices. And as soon I get to Capture and select the video camera as input source X4 replies with 'incompatible video formats' and nothing gets captured.
Hope this helps.

Hi
Capturing from a DV type camcorder should be done via firewire, the capture format should be DV, digital video.
This literally transfers the data from the camera to the pc, no re-coding.
If you chose DVD then you could select capture options/templates to recode the video.
These would normally be Pal types, I don’t understand why you are seeing Ntsc types assuming that you have installed the program correctly, which I believe you have.
You should capture using DV.
Try a short capture, Format DV, then right click a captured clip and select properties, what are they?
