Slow and jerky

Post by phaseman »

Hello

I just recently bought Corel VideoStudio Pro x4

This is my first video software, my question might seem child like to some.

I made a 3min clip with text and transitions added, my problem came when I added music, it crashed.
Luckily I saved every 5min, after reloading my clip became jerky to watch, before it was smooth.

I guess crashed happen, but can anyone shed some light why now its jerky?

Cheers

Welcome to the forums!

Unfortunately, we simply do not have enough information to be able to make even a reasonable guess at a solution. We also have no idea what your video format is, and what kind of camcorder or other device was used to film it, or what editing you did to it and what you are trying to produce.

Please have a look at this sticky post at the top of this forum -- it is called, indicatively, PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?p=41454#p41454 Then get back to us with the information requested and hopefully someone will be able to help.

I hope this what you require. I used HD Hero.
Editing: speed up by 300%, transition, text added.

I had no issues at the start everything was working fine, I play back a few times with no problems. Only after the music file was added and crashed did it become jerky (jumpy, stop start, not sure the best way to describe it ).

I let it sit there for three hours and slow it righted itself, just worried if this will happen again and if so what can I do so I don't sit and wait three hours.

Ok, you gave us the properties of the video clip, but you state that adding an audio clip is what caused the crash. What kind of audio clip?

Hi Jeff

Audio clip: MPEG Layer 3 Audio File

To be honest the audio clip and the crash didn't bother me, after I reload my project (without the audio) it became jerky or stop start, not sure how to put in words, English is not my first language.

It righted itself after a few hours, then it was smooth again.

Sounds like something in the background could have been working, slowing down your VS.

As far as MP3 files, they sometimes cause problems in VS. It is recommended you convert them to WAV files. I use the free Audacity to do it.

Hi

Video Studio uses a process called Smart Proxy.
HD files can be quite demanding on the pc’s resources.
After inserting a clip to the timeline Smart Proxy creates smaller files which helps by smoothing playback, these do take some time to create.

As you mention a delay before things became smooth then maybe it’s a proxy issue.

View Settings -- Smart Proxy Manager for a list of created files

Notice the small icon on the clip in the timeline that indicates a proxy file has been created.

Right click a clip to manually create proxy files.
