I am from Europe so I'm in PAL region and I have Panasonic VCR with NTSC video cassette that is in EP format. Now I usually connect my VCR with a USB cable/ device called "EasyCAP". Usually when I put PAL tapes it transfers it very fine and I usually use Golden Videos program or sometimes Ulead VideoStudio SE DVD and like I said it doesn't make problems.
But when I put this NTSC EP cassette in which is fine on TV but on computer I get black and white picture. It's like when I put PAL cassette and don't set PAL/NTSC region in options so it gets black and white on computer.
So what should I do? Can someone recommend me some better software perhaps?
EP VHS tape to DVD problem
Re: EP VHS tape to DVD problem
OK I tried switching on VCR it to play on MESECAM format and I actually get color in Ulead and Gold Videos when I set it to PAL but the picture gets frozen and cut in half by "tracking" but when I switch it to NTSC in Ulead and Gold Videos I get fluid picture but in B&W.

Re: EP VHS tape to DVD problem
The problem is NTSC and PAL are two different standards. To get it to work properly you need to get an NTSC vcr.

If you have the newer VCR, they should be able to play your tape.

Re: EP VHS tape to DVD problem
Newer VCR? They are all but extinct now. The last time I looked, I could only find a scant couple of DVD-VCR Combo decks, and I can no longer find VHS tapes. That was about a year ago. I don't think VCRs were ever made to accept both PAL and NTSC regions.

While I believe it is true Ron that there never was an NTSC VCR which could play PAL tapes, here in Europe it was possible to buy a VCR which played PAL and NTSC tapes - the output when playing NTSC was a psuedo-PAL which although not fully complying with the PAL spec was close enough to be able to view on a standard PAL TV.
