This is a new fault which has appeared with Corel Pro x3. When I play clips on the overlay tracks as a project they play faultlessly. When I play them as a clip on any overlay track, there is no sound and it stutters instead of one constant speed. I have installed the program twice now trying to fix this problem. I am editing in Standard Definition. What could be causing this problem? This occurs with all files on the overlay tracks played in clip mode.
My computer is a Pentium (R) D CPU 3.00GHz, 3.25GB of RAM, Windows XP Pro, Intel Motherboard, ATI Radeon HD 5450, 512MB DDR3, IDT Audio. Sony HVR-V1P Pan NVGS400

Re: video clips and images stuttering on overlay tracks
I experienced the same with X2 and X3. I just finished a project in X4 that used all 6 overlay tracks for the first 30 seconds or so, with the Picture-in-Picture filter applied to all 6 clips. The X4 project played back very well.

Re: video clips and images stuttering on overlay tracks
Jeff,
I was able to use a number of the overlay tracks without any problem. Then I had to put the computer into a computer repairer for another reason, and since it has been returned, the overlay tracks are not working. Is it possible that a link to the overlay tracks is now not working? Is there somewhere I can check this? I have uninstalled and installed the program twice and it has not made any difference. I thought that it might have been a lack of virtual memory and I have increased that, but this has had no effect.
Thank you,
Col

Re: video clips and images stuttering on overlay tracks
What do you mean "they are not working"?

Re: video clips and images stuttering on overlay tracks
Jeff,
Main video track plays ok including audio in both "clip" and "project". Transferring to any overlay track and clicking on "clip" it stutters and slows down with no audio. Clicking on sound mixer, the same overlay track plays faultlessly both video and audio. What's going on here. It seems very strange. I have never encountered this before! Any solutions would help.
Many thanks,
Col

Re: video clips and images stuttering on overlay tracks
Well, I can only repeat what I said earlier. I had the same problems in X2 and X3. But with X4 it plays ok. I guess they have improved playback ability with the new version.

Jeff,
I am starting to receive the attached error report. What does this mean? Does this program now have major faults?

Re: video clips and images stuttering on overlay tracks
Oh - that error display looks very familar to me.
I have numerous of those dump files on my disk - all produced by videostudio X4 Pro.
I tried to contact the Corel support to send those files, but i don't found any possibility to do that - only web forms, where nobody answers.
Just now i try, what works better with Edius 3 than videostudio X4.
Edit:
Interesting - all works fine and very fast, but the rendered AVCHD-file (19 minutes with titles and music) has in some movements unsharp pixel mixup and fragments. Will try rendering with other options.
Videostudio X4 Pro don't do that (until now), but seems to be in general less sharp, very slow in AVCHD and crashes often.
P.s. All files are from my Panasonic HC-TM900 recorded in HG-mode.
