Capturing some Mini-DV video with VS9 the picture is very jerky. Checking already captured stuff that has been transferred to DVDs I find the AVI masters are also now jerky but mpeg1 masters play OK.
I suspect that the problem stems from the PC - could it be the graphics card or something else?

Re: Jerky video
This can also be a problem with the codec that you have on your computer or the media player. You may want to check what decoder was used in creating the .avi, so that you will know what codec to update or install.
Just incase... here are some of the codecs that you may want to install.
RealPlayer: http://www.real.com/
DivX: http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus/codec-pack
XviD: http://downloads.xvid.org/downloads/xvidcore-1.3.1.zip
Windows Media Player: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... dia-player or just download the Windows Encoder at http://www.microsoft.com/expression/pro ... rview.aspx

Re: Jerky video
With respect, Abiel, I cannot see what any of those codecs have to do with DV/AVI video. The DV codec is installed, as you know, as part of Windows.
Trikie: a lot of us here use a small freeware program called WinDV to capture our own DV. That is not because we have trouble with Video Studio. It is just that it does some other things, including allowing us to use our our names for the captured video rather than the weird-looking naming system used by Video Studio. But if you download and install that, and then capture with it, and have the same problem, we will at least know the problem is related specifically to Video Studio. In which case it could be hardware related e.g. a faulty Firewire cable or card. But given your other stated problems, it could be that something has indeed corrupted your DV/AVI codec.
You can download WinDV from http://www.windv.mourek.cz

Re: Jerky video
Thanks both.
Before doing anything I tried looking at an existing file and it played perfectly so I tried capturing and this was OK too!
The PC had been switched off for the night so I can only think that whatever the problem was it was sorted when I opened up again.
Fingers crossed for tomorrow and thanks for the tip about WinDV.
