videostudio 9 downloaded upgrade problem+ solution

Post by EstherE »

Was and ofcourse still am the owner of Videostudioversion 6.
After trying out the trial version for version 9 i decided to buy the upgrade in the downloadversion.
Then i found out i had a problem trying to install it on my pc. :(
Wizard opened but there was no text in the licence-agreement box but i agreed and continued.
Then where i had to say land/region again no text so went for option 2 were i could say to use SECAM/PAL
After checking the settings the install started but after 10 sec i got a pop-up saying: please insert disk1 that contains the file layout.bin.
and under that it said path: and in that box they gave a path (C; Docume~etc).
When i said ok it said setup couldn't find a file on the specified path or disk. Please check that the proper disk is inserted or specify a new path.
Tried pointing to cd version 6, program installed on pc etc but nothing worked. :?
Emailed to Ulead and actually got an answer.
There was something i needed to do, something very simple but would be nice if it had been mentioned in the email with the link/on the downloadsite itself.
I needed to have WINRAR (can be downloaded from www.rarsoft.com) and after downloading the upgrade rightclick on the program. Click on last option (extract to<name of download>) and then you get a list including a setupfile. After clicking on that it installed without trouble or even asking me about earlier versions etc. :D
Ok i am blond but had also somebody else try who knows his bit about pc's and he also couldn't get it to work before. The file i downloaded doesn't say it is a zipfile and it's also as i said not mentioned on the site/in the email. That's why i guess maybe other people might also be having or will be getting this problem. As we had searched this forum for a possible solution and hadn't seen this possible solution mentioned i decided to mention it here maybe so it will help others

I going to upgrade from VS8 to 9, and am wondering if the program has to be winrar or any zip utility such as winzip will work?

In the email i received they only mentioned winrar and that i could downloaded it at www.rarsoft.com . So guess it needs to be winrar. Opening the website it says you have to pay for the download but somewhere on that site there is also a link for a trialversion. I used that one and it worked perfectly.

I've been using the trial version, and only have about 4 or 5 days left on it.
I'll look at winrar's site. Not up to buying a zip utility. I have winzip, however just the trial version, and about ready to dump it and just use what came with WinXP...

Thanks :)
