X2 DVD data disappears

Post by hanlen »

Up until recently I have been continuing to use VS9 for creating DVDs but I use X2 for editing and rendering video files. I have now created templates in X2 but the video files that are displayed at the bottom of the 1st DVD menu has now twice disappeared relating to 2 DVDs (so 4 times). The VSP files are 2.0MB and 2.5MB so the data seems to be there but are empty when calling up the DVD menu. My video files are in an external file but that has never been a problem with VS9 and I can't see that being the problem. All works fine on the day I create them and I can sut down and reopen VS without trouble. When I log on another day all the data is gone. I have wasted many hours and am at the end of my tether.

Hi Hans

After closing the burner module you are returned to the editing timelines.

Now you have to save the project again using File Save or Save As. This should save the menu structure.
Are you saving the project again?

Can you confirm that you are doing this?

Trevor, that was my initial thought, but he says he can close and re-open VS and has no problem. It's only after he "logs on" again that he has the problem.

Hi Trevor,

Yes I am saving, or saving as, once the DVD menu screen is closed. I hadn't even got to the burn stage as I am building up my DVDs over time. In this respect X2 works much the same as VS9. The first time I used X2 DVD menus I didn' realise my customised templates were saved under My Documents/Corel so I inadvertently deleted them in cleaning up (but I had back ups). I occasionally did something wrong in VS9 and lose the menu background image but the files were always there. Curiously the VSP file sizes suggest the data is there but it has lost some linkages.

Hi

I can only assume the lost thumbnails are due to Re-naming, Editing , Moving or deleting the files.
Adding a VSP to the burner stage then moving the VSP will cause a re-link

There are several folders that Video Studio uses to save files.

The Working Folder aka Capture Folder is generally used for your captured files, Screenshots are also saved here.
I allocate a new working folder for each project.

The Authoring Module (Share Create Disc) also has a working folder, this is a separate folder to the capture folder. Press F6 for preferences for its location.
This is used to store temporary files created during the burning process.
Your menu templates, Favourites will also be saved here.

Take care when cleaning up…………….
