.mov file problem when viewing as project in VS8

Post by PatMaloney »

I've got a .mov file that plays just fine in Quicktime and imports into VS8 just fine. When I play it as a clip in the timeline, it is fine. But when I play it as a project in the timeline or try to "share" it to a file or disc, the video is very jerky and there is no audio.

I looked at the properties for the clip and it says, in addition to being a Quicktime .mov file, that it is MPEG-4 video. So I purchased the MPEG-4 plug-in but it made no difference. I downloaded the current version of the (free) Quicktime player, but no difference. Has anyone else had this problem and been able to solve it?

Thanks for any assistance.

I think you discovered an existing VS8 bug

Not 100% sure if this is the same problem / Issue, but over the last year and a half I have used and helped other people use a Kodak digital camera… The camera is able to make short video segments with audio (quality not fantastic but good enough for some applications). The segments are stored in a .MOV format. The segemts flay fine on my computer with the Kodak software, Quick time , and in Media player.. but WILL NOT play when inserted in VS8. I have just purchased some video conversion routines (cost me $20) that converts MOV to AVI…. The converted AVI segments play fine in the VS8.
In my opinion you have found an ULEAD bug that has existed for over two years.

Thanks for the info, jlocante. I have a file conversion program called Cleaner v.5 that will do a lot of conversions as well, including to .avi. But my first attempt at that resulted in a clip that had audio that was very much out of sync. I'll try some others ...
