Video Studio Pro X4 Compatibility

Post by mark9422 »

Hello

I am in the middle of a major project using Video Studio Pro X2. The project is a year long compilation that will conclude in December. I will begin a fresh new project in January. I am interested in upgrading to X4 but wondered if my current project under X2 will be recognized and workable in X4. Should I wait to upgrade at the beginning of my new project or is it safe to do so now.

Thank you!

Installing X4 does not remove X2, so you can try it safely and continue using X2 if somehow X4 does not work for the old project. BTW, my experience was that X4 had no issues with my X2 projects... Al

BUT, an X2 project that you open in X4, and subsequently save as an X4 project, will no longer open in X2. So what I would do is open the project in X4 then immediately go to File>Save As and under Save As Type, choose VS 12 Project File and give it a unique name, such as 2011 Compilation X2. You can then proceed to edit in X4 and when you are done, save it as a X4 AND a X2 project file. This way you have a copy that will open in X2 should X4 fail.

Keep in mind though, that any features unique to X4 that you add to the project will not open in X2.
