Importing a Video Studio .VSP file to MV 4

Post by beullar »

I create a project in Video Studio 9 and save it as a .VSP file. I then try to import that file into Movie Factory 4 to create a DVD and MF 4 states this file is not supported. The Movie Factor 4 User Manual clearly states.."You can also
add a VideoStudio project (.VSP)."

This should clearly work since I can create a project in VS 9 and then click "create disc" which opens up a lite version of MV 4 within Video Studio and runs the .VSP file. Since the Disc creator in VS 9 is just a lite version of the MV 4 Disc creator this should be fully compatible.

Anyone else have this problem or know how to get around it? I do not want to have to render a project in VS 9 and then import it as an .mpg into MV 4 and then render it again to make the DVD. I also need the additional layout and editing capability of the MV4, otherwise I would create the disc in VS 9's disc creator.

thanks beullar

Not sure on the import, but if you don't plan to edit in MF4, you can create the mpeg out of VS9, and then import the mpeg into mf4 and tell MF4 to use the mpeg the way it is (i.e. don't re-render it).

Thanks...but problem still exists

George.....Thanks for the advice but the time to create an .mpg file and import it into the MV 4 is way too long. I need to import as many as 6 .VSP files into MV 4 which will create the titles. Saving the files as only a .VSP in Video Studio allows me to bypass the step of rendering and working much quicker. It also allows me to return to VS 9 and edit the file to make any changes then go back to MV 4.

The point is that MV 4 clearly states that importing .VSP files is an option. I also use Roxio's Media Creator 7.5 and working between Video Wave 7 and Roxios Disc Creator is flawless and transparent. In fact, I can open Video Wave from within Disc Creator to edit my project....something I wish Ulead could do. The integration between VS 9 and MV 4 should be MUCH tighter and transparent.

Hi beullar,

I agree, and understand the issue with not being able to import VS9 projects (VS8 projects could work, but that doesn't help you). I believe this issue is being looked at, and a patch will be created to allow this type of import.

MovieFactory 4 was released before VideoStudio 9 was released.
You can IMPORT a VideoStudio 8 project into MF4 using the import
video icon.

They will release a patch to import from VS9. It's understandable
not importing a VS9 project file since VS9 was released later.

Thank you Beullar for posting this important warning. I have VS9 and was about to purchase Movie Factory 4.
Does anybody know if DVD Workshop 2 has the same feature (unable to import VS9 files)?
