Another 8bf plug-in that doesn't work

Post by df »

Hi all. Recently I've tried to use a plug-in from C F Systems called Colorperfect, http://www.c-f-systems.com/Plug-ins.html The plug-in required a 16 bit linear file (I'm using it for correcting color issues from scanned film), so it wasn't capable in PSP until X3 patch #3. The trial version works fine from what I can tell (I'm not well versed in the plug-in) but you can't activate it. The rub comes when you try to use the activation code, the host program (PSP) has to interact with the plug-in in a way that PSP doesn't.

I contacted the supplier of the plug-in and this was their reply:
Hello Dan,

The web page does not say that our plug-ins work with Corel Paintshop and you have found the reason. ColorPerfect (and the rest) make extensive use of something called the Photoshop Registry, which Paintshop does not support. It is not just the Key, but many other parts of ColorPerfect will not work. As you say, Corel just recently got 16-bit plug-ins to work at all. If and when they get the rest to work we probably will support it.

ColorPerfect does work with Photoline

which you might find preferable to Elements.

So, does anyone have any idea if Corel will start to develop their plug-ins support more? That would make PSP more useful than any other single improvement I can think of because third party plug-in authors will do the rest.
Regards, Dan
