Capture settings on VS7

Post by ironclaw »

Can somebody help please? I am using a Canopus ADVC110 to transfer old VHS tapes into Video studio 7. I can capture ok when using ANY format setting apart from AVI. Whenever I try to set the format to AVI it only remains on for a fraction of a second, then resets to DV. At first this didn't bother me, but after I captured a section of a VHS tape by using the DVD format setting and tried to trim the end of it, VS7 REFUSED TO TRIM THE END OFF! Anybody any idea what's going on? Thanking you in anticipation, ironclaw

1. Apply the UVS 7 updates, and then the two hotfix files mentioned in the "Editing/Rendering" section of the UVS 7 Technical FAQ.

2. Stick with DV AVI -- it is the native format of the Canopus ADVCs, and gives you the best quality.

Thank you, do you mean that when the Capture format is set to DV, it is automatically recording in AVI?

"VS7 REFUSED TO TRIM THE END OFF!"

Just in case you didn't realize: The original capture file will not be altered in the least by any of your editing, cutting, titles, etc. So you can come back to it over and over and do different things each time, different projects, without fear of "losing something."

The .VSP project file accumulates all your actions and then, when you "Create new video file," implements your decisions. That's when you'll see the end trimmed off.

AVI is a container file format which can store audio and video streams in uncompressed or compressed form. The compression/decompression is handled using a codec (encoder/decoder), and DV is one such common codec.

The "SAVE TRIMMED VIDEO" feature is supposed to take the marked (according to the Mark In / Mark Out positions) video and save it to the Library. Unfortunately, that doesn't work correctly unless you apply the patches mentioned in my earlier message -- UVS always saves the whole video.
