Program has stopped working correctly
Purchased CD - Painshop Pro Photo X2. Version 12.5. Updated to date with patches.
I have had this problem for months. Corel support can't help- Their advice didn't work (Advice was reset preferences)
I could be working away and the application screen turns white and this window come up telling me that "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". It happens on all different occasions- doesn't always happen. I could go weeks with no problems, then it could happen continuously for a while! Most of the time it happens when I right click on any layer to merge them. Sometimes it could be when using the clone brush.
I have tried with no other programs running at the same tiome and I have tried it with several running, it makes no difference.
This can be very fustrating! Thank goodness for auto save!
Any help in solving this would be appreciated.
(This also happens in my Upgraded version X3 purchased from Corel, but I don't use it becasue of this problem. I only use the X2. If I can fix the problem, then I will know what to do for the X3 Upgrade.)

Re: Program has stopped working correctly
Note:
In the clean install information provided by Abiel, it advises you to download the MSI Cleanup file. According to Simone, who is also a Corel representative, she advises NOT TO RUN THIS FILE. It damages your system, and that Microsoft has even stopped advising usage of it.
Simone's post about not using this file: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 97#p219797
ABIEL,
If you're going to continue to post the link to Corel's web page that advises people to use the MSI Cleanup file, you better be posting along with it, for them to not download and use that file!! Further posts to that webpage, will result in the link being removed, and quite possibly your post.

Re: Program has stopped working correctly
Hi Ron and to all
The MSI Cleanup Tool is indeed out of date. Worked with some errors under XP, but since Windows Vista/7, even MS took it out and recommend the Control Panel.
X3 requires a particular tool, because it has much more keys in the registry which have to be removed.
PSPPX2 is much simpler than X3, please use following instructions for PSPPX2:
Before you install a program, a patch or an update and when ever you want to change something on your system, since Vista/Windows 7 you have to log in as administrator and the only way to get full administrator access is by turning off the User Account Control and right-click on a program, patch or update and go to "Run as Administrator". Otherwise, you will have problems working properly on your system.
Vista: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... -on-or-off
Windows 7: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Wind ... -on-or-off
Before you uninstall a program, please check whether you have installed the program as a user or an administrator.
You will not find some parts of the program, if you are logged in as an user, but you installed the software with your administrator account.
Uninstalling
1. Control Panel:
Go to Start – Control Panel - Add and Remove Programs (XP)/Programs and Features (Vista) and remove Paint Shop Pro X2.
2. Registry:
Every program leaves keys in the Registry which need to be removed. Before you work in the registry, please make a backup copy by (export) the Registry first. If you make a mistake, then you can import the registry again.
Attention: If you have several Corel programs on your machine, please make sure that you carry out all the following instructions only for the program that you wish to remove.
Go to Start – Run and type “regedit” and press “Enter”.
If you work with Windows Vista/7, type “regedit” in the Search box and press “Enter”.
Open the following keys
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-776561741-813497703-1957994488-1531\Software\Corel\
and delete the following keys under the Corel\
The folder Paint Shop Pro X2 including all sub-folders
Please, check in HKEY_USERS\Software to make sure that there is no Corel or Program Paint Shop Pro X2 folder.
3. C:\
Important: When you have several Corel programs on your machine, please note that all instructions apply only to your program.
In C:\Program Files please delete the following files and folders:
The Corel folder, or, if you have other Corel programs, only the Paint Shop Pro X2 folder.
If you can’t see the AppData folder, go to Start – Control Panel – Folder options - View and activate “Show hidden Files and Folders”.
Go to:
C:\Documents and Settings\ADMINISTRATOR\AppData\Corel
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME\AppData\Corel
If you work with Vista, g to C:\Users\Agent\AppData\Roaming\Corel
and delete the folder Paint Shop Pro X2.
Go to: (look at the content in that folder and don't delete your own project files if you want to reinstall PSPPX2)
C:\My Documents\My PSP Files
and delete the folder
4. Turn your computer off completely and then turn it on again after several minutes.
Install Paint Shop Pro X2 again.

Re: Program has stopped working correctly
I appreciate the help that has been given for this problem as I am having the exact same issue. I have followed the suggestions posted and the only way that I can get the program to run is to uninstall it and then reinstall it. I then get one use out of it before having to do this over again.
I purchased the program in 2009 and it ran fine on my Dell. In February I put it on my new computer and it ran fine until late April. Now it does exactly what is described above.
I am wondering if there is any further information about this problem and a permanent fix.
Thanks

Okay. That never fixed it. Into my first design for the day and it stopped working when I clicked on a layer!
I give up!

Re: Program has stopped working correctly
I have followed the instructions here several times. Usually I can get my program to run for a short time. Recently, I have uninstalled and reinstalled 2 times and it won't run. I am wondering what folks suggest I do. I am considering upgrading to 3 though not sure about it and I like X2. It just does not run. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Program has stopped working correctly
The problem is usualy in non-standard Windows instalation. I myself had quite a few time this problems with installing of a new released software from Adobe and Corel. For example program like Adobe Flash CS4 I installed without any problems, but can't install update 1, and so on. In my case was problem ALWAYS on MY side. So I modiefied my installation (by the way - it was done with - nLite - http://www.nliteos.com/).
BUT there are many OPTIMALIZATION "utilities/tools" --- and to use them is ALLWAYS risky... they automaticaly dissable some "unknown" start-up services ..to speed-up your PC, but who knows..??
So problems can arrise from any corner...
