Analog video capture problem

Post by qwe123 »

Trying to capture (in MSP7) analog HI8 video through Hercules Video Action card, in a sempron 3000+ computer (120G HDD, ATI 9250 card, 512MB memory). When the film runs on the screen, before capturing, it looks fine. When trying to capture MPEG2 in the higher resolutions (PAL 720*576) the movie is distorted, jumpy - with horizontal lines - even though I followed the recomended procedure I found in this site. In AVI, its the same, even worse, and sometime the movie even freezes. In SVGA, the picture is a little bit better, still not the best. Any idea what to do?

Capturing analogue is often hairy, unless you convert it to a DV stream and save it through an IEEE-1394 port.

As you have only one HDD for the OS, virtual memory, applications, temp files and video, I suggest that this may be your problem. It simply cannot cope with doing five things at once. For my video computer, I have separate drives for booting into Windows and utilities, another for fixed length swap file as first partition on IDE2 Master, and applications on the second partition, another for my temp files on IDE1 slave while my video is on a RAID 0 array.

I suggest, at the very least, you try a second HDD on IDE2 Master that you reserve only for your video.

Thanks. Is there any advantage in using a SATA HDD?
