External HD with pictures need to add to catalog search?

I am using the full version of PSP X3 Ultimate Pro, updated and have the scripts registration pack.

Prior to purchase I was using an old version of Adobe Photoshop (7 I believe). I have a bunch of photos on an external drive. I cant seem to properly search these photos by date using PSP.

Meaning I have a photo with EXIF data stating it was taken on 1/1/2010. If I search the drive for photos taken on 1/1/2010 I get no results.

How do I get PSP X3 Ultimate Pro to catalog all my pictures on an external hard drive? When I mean catalog I mean reconize certain EXIF data (like date taken, focal length, Camera make etc) that I may want to search by?

Even when I use the process in which I allow Corels program to transfer the photos from my Mem card it only reconizes the date I transfer it not the date I took the photo. So if I use Corel today to tranfer pictures I took on 5/1/2011 and search for pictures taken 5/1/2011 I get no results.
