In some experiments, I kept crashing at 0% with the same error message as you received. That was before installing any patches. After installing the three patches, I'm already up to 6%.
I checked for updates and the program says I am current "No updates available at this time"
My version is Pro 13.6.2.69
Is this the lastest?

The program crashes almost immedietely. I don't even see the %. Thanks.

That's the version I have. Unfortunately I made the mistake of manually installing the patches without checking the version number before and after. Now I'm uninstalling VS and will retest the whole thing.

Incidentally, I had the latest Quicktime 7.6.9 installed at the time.

Kingston,

Are you having the same crashing problem when generating MPEG-4 HD file? Thanks for the input.

You have the latest version, which means all the patches have been installed.

What properties are you using for your MPEG-4 HD video file? Are you using one of the canned templates, if so which one(s)? When you've gone the Custom route, what settings are you choosing in the Options? I'm trying to see if I can replicate this crash. So far for my project I have several photos, a title, and a WAV file for the audio.

So far I haven't been able to get it to crash. One video was created using the following properties:
MPEG-4 File
H.264 Main Profile Video
Total Frames: 3,852
Attributes: 24 bits, 1280 x 720
Frame Rate: 29.97 Frames/sec

AUDIO:
Audio Type: MPEG-AAC Audio
Total Sample: 5,668,864 Samples
Attributes: 44100Hz, 16 bit Stereo
Bit rate: 128 Kbps

Hi Ron,

I am using the can template for MPEG-4 HD with the following attributes
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 30 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 15000 Kbps
32000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps

I tried with just one sample photo and it crashed the program. Creating a HDV or WMV files is fine.

I also tried a custom setting using the following and it crashed. Just 2 photos & nothing else.
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 5000 Kbps
44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps

Thanks!

Hi again,

I was able to create an MPEG-4 HD from 5 minutes of slides and one mp3. When I tried with 16 minutes of slides and three mp3's, it crashed at 0%.

I think you should move up to VS Pro X4.

Do you have the same problem with Pro X4 crashing? I see you have both versions. I am not sure it this is a bug or my computer.

I was able to create a video file using the "canned " MPEG-4 HD settings. I'm using my desktop, which runs Win XP HP, it also has a couple of internal HDDs that I use to share the workload, read from one write to the other. I don't have VS X3 installed on my Vista machine. The activations need to be reset for it, and I'm not going to bother calling Corel, since I really don't want VS X3 on it.

With VS X4, on my Vista machine, I was able to create a video file using the same "canned" settings. I had about 20 photos, and a WAV file.

Have you by chance installed any Codec Packs? That's one thing that can mess up existing codecs on your system. I know that Corel has even mentioned in one of their patches about correcting problems with Klite Codec pack. However my opinion, I would stay completely away from them. I've never installed them, the only codecs on my machines come from the OS, or the programs installed.

Also you might want to do some reading on MPEG-4. A good place to start is with Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-4

Thanks Ron. I don't remember purposely installing any additional codec. Just like you, other than OS and other programs. I am also wondering if the problem is caused by WIn 7 updates.
I have another computer that I am using for HTPC (also Win 7) connected to my main TV. Out of the blue, Windows Media Center won't play anymore DVD folders. I wonder if 64bit vs 32bit OS matters.

I have a Win7 64bit system and everything I throw at VS X3 crashes. I've tried 2 different cameras and various settings. Have loaded and unloaded and reloaded program, done patches, followed directions from chat, installed microsoft patches. Nothing stops crashes. Is VS X3 Win 7 unfriendly? I never had problems in the past with VS but this new one doesn't like Win 7.

For whatever reasons, the crashing sometimes are not consistent. Previosly it was crashing when an audio track was added to it. Now it will crash with only 1 photo in the project. All these crashes are experienced when trying to create MPEG-4 HD files only. Everything else is fine.

Here is Corel support response.
"Thank you for contacting Corel Customer support.

We would need to make sure that there are no corrupted files in program's file folder. In order to do this, you would need to fully remove the software from your computer and install a fresh copy. This will help us in determining the possible cause of the issue and be able to create a better solution.

Please follow the instructions at the link below on how to do a clean reinstallation procedure.

1. Download and install the Microsoft Windows Clean Up utility. This will remove all registry keys associated with the VideoStudio Pro X3 install process:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;290301

2. Run the Windows Clean Up utility; Click Start >> Programs >> Windows Install Clean Up. Highlight VideoStudio Pro X3 from the list of products. Click Remove. Click Exit when done.

If an error occurs after clicking the remove button, just click Ok to ignore and exit the utility.

3. Delete the following folders/directories:

C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X3\
On Windows XP:
• C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\application data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\13.0
On Windows Vista:
• C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\13.0
4. Go to Start >> Run and then type: regedit
6. Hit "OK" to launch Regedit window.
7. Go to "My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro"; delete the folder "13.0"
8. Go to "My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro"; delete the folder "13.0"
9. Close the Regedit.
10. Clean up temporary files and Recycle Bin by launching the Disk Cleanup from Start menu >> Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> Disk Cleanup.

I also suggest that you download and install the following:

Patches: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 7273776985
C++: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
DirectX: http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/deta ... laylang=en

In a couple of posts in the PSP forum, Simone UK, who is a Corel Representative, says to not use the MS Cleanup Utility. It can damage your system, and MS has even stopped recommending it's use.
