VS Pro X3 - Creating MPEG-4 HD Crashes program
Hi,
I have a project with only photos (about 200) and 3 songs. Total length is about 16min.
I have successfully created a .MPG (2.3GB) and .WMA (474MB) HD files.
My problem is when I create a MPEG-4 HD files. It kept crashing the program while "Creating File..."
Error message, "The program has encountered an unspecified error and has stopped functioning. Please contact Corel Technical Support and send the dump file for analysis."
I tried another project with photos and music only and encountered the same problem. Shortening the project yielded the same (one song and a few pictures).
I tried using "Custom" and using the HD settings resulted in the same error. Nothing helps.
Anyone experienced this before? Fix? My patches are up to date.
Appreciate if anyone has other suggestions to create Hi Def movie files that I can playback with and Apple computer (Quicktime).
Thanks!

Hi
The latest versions of Quick Time has shown some problems with crashes.
Reverting to an earlier version of QT has cured this for some users.

You are a genius! I went back to the basic and started troubleshooting to create a sample MPEG-4 HD file.
-Just 3 pictures from the library [OK]
-3 pictures with a video clip from the library [OK]
-3 pictures with a video clip and a MPA audio from the library [Crashed!]
So now it confirms that the audio files are causing the error and crashes. Do you have a recommendation for a solid freeware to convert to WAV?
Thanks again!
UPDATE:
I tried with a WAV audio file and still crashes the program. Any other suggestions?

I think it is safe to say that WAV files will not cause VS to crash. Have you looked into the QT version as Trevor suggested?

I still believe the audio track causes the VS X3 program to crash when trying to create a MPEG-4 HD file. A simple project with a couple of pictures will produce a MPEG-4 HD file without problem. The same project with any audio track will crash the VS X3 program. This problem can be repeated. Is this a bug?
Regarding QT, I do not understand the solution. I have no problem with QT crashing. Just VS X3 having problem creating MPEG-4 HD file.
Thanks again!

Quick Time
Running the latest version of Quick Time has caused some to experience crashes.
Corel’s knowledge base
Reverting to an earlier version has cured this issue for some users, I think it is worth the effort to install an earlier version, if it makes no difference you can always update QT

I am not using or running QT at all. But I will take a look just in case. Thanks.

Re: VS Pro X3 - Creating MPEG-4 HD Crashes program
Hi
Maybe I should have said “Installed” rather than “running”
Video Studio requires Quick Time to run some of its templates/samples.
QuickTime will be installed on your system.
If you are experiencing crashes.
Whether you are using Quick time type files or not.
It is recommended to revert to an earlier version.
This has been proven to cure some problems for some users
There is a post at the top of this forum with a link to QT downloads

Thanks Ron

Re: VS Pro X3 - Creating MPEG-4 HD Crashes program
Hi Trevo,
I downgraded QT to 7.6 Windows (from 7.6.9) and VS X3 is still crashing. Now it is crashing even without the audio track. Just a couple of pictures or a sample video clip will crash the program.
Has X4 fixed this problem? I am thinking about upgrading since the price is pretty reasonable now. Thanks!

Hi Thomas
As far as I know Video Studio X4 provides Quick Time 7.5.5 as part of its installation files.
I have QT 7.5.5 installed.
Try-out the Free Trial of X4, before you install the program first uninstall QuickTime.
I assume the installation of X4 will also install QuickTime, otherwise you will be prompted to install QT.

Re: VS Pro X3 - Creating MPEG-4 HD Crashes program
Thomas, are you positive you have installed all three patches for X3?
In some experiments, I kept crashing at 0% with the same error message as you received. That was before installing any patches. After installing the three patches, I'm already up to 6%.
