Any ideas on why VS X4 crashes on Win 7?

Post by 951Ingrid »

Corel tech support tells me they have no idea why VS X4 crashes my computer when I try to render after installing Win 7 Service Pace 1. Any ideas?

Background:

I upgraded to VS X4 from X3 a little over a month ago. I'm running a Dell laptop i5 processor, 6 gb memory, Win 7. Worked fine for about a month. Installed Win 7 Service Pack 1. Now VS X4 crashes every time I try to render.

Paid for tech support incident and told to reinstall. Did that problem still exists. Had to pay another $20 to be told that they really don't know what the problem is. Spent nearly an hour with tech support only to be told that the issue would be escalated to a higher level of support. It's been a little over a week and still haven't heard from Corel support.

So far I must say that I am not very impressed with Corel.

Anyone else have these issues??? Any ideas on how to make VB X4 work???

Thanks much.

It's probably the file/format you are feeding in. Have you tried the old audio/video files that worked previously? Converting to a different format will probably help. You may be able to convert the file with Video Studio (before editing), or if Video Studio crashes on that task you may have to use 3rd-party conversion software (usually free).

What's the audio/video format and where did it come from? What output-format do you want?

I had a similar problem a while back where I couldn't render with either VS12 or X3 at one point, and reinstalling didnt help. Somewhat later I got a new, larger hard drive to use as my primary drive, and after reinstalling the operating system on that drive, the problem went away and the VS software started working again. I suspect that at some point before the Corel programs stopped working, some other program that was recently installed conflicted with VS, and that caused it to crash. I never did figure what exactly the problem was, but doing a clean install of the operating system seemed to cure it.

It may have been a codec issue.

In VS, try changing this setting:

Settings-Preferences-Performance tab and uncheck the box for Use Hardware Decoder acceleration.
