cursor movement between objects in menu

Post by Andy W »

Hello,
i am from germany, so it is hard for me to find the correct words for special items because i have a german version of DVD-PowerTools2 (this is the german name of Uleads authoring software, i hope this is the correct forum).

when i make a DVD menu with some active objects (if "enter" is pressed on player, chapter, film, other menu etc. is started, german word for object is "Schaltflaeche"), it is difficuilt to say to what object cursor is moving when pressing "up", "down", "left" or "right" on DVD player. If objects are placed in a line horizontally or vertically it is clear, but if an object is placed in the middle below two other objects, to witch object cursor will go when i press "up"?

Until this it is just nice to know. But if i use some objects with automatic activation it becomes difficiult for some menus. Example:

On top 4 windows for 4 chapters. Below "Home" button. Below this, "Previous", Play all" and "Next" in one line vertically aligned at same horizontal distance. "Play all" is exactly below "Home". "Previous" and "Next" has automatic activation, so previous/next page for chapter selection opens when cursor is moved to according object without pressing "Enter" . But if cursor is at "Home" button and i am pressing "Down", cursor does not move to "Play all" directly beneath it every time. Sometimes it moves to "Next" and next menu for selecting chapters will open. If rightmost Window for chapter selection is more right when "Next", pressing "Down" places cursor directly to "Next", not to "Play all" below it (it is not directly below it, but below and left).

Any idea, what kind of logic is navigating cursor in a menu? I have tried to figure out it with some test menus, but i have no complete success. There are still combinations where prediction of cursor movement is not possible.

Better will be a possibility to say at every object to whitch destination object the 4 cursor keys on DVD player will navigate. Like play list (german word "Wiedergabeliste") for each object, where you define destination of this object (film, chapter, other menu etc.).

Thanks for tips.

Try the free "MenuEdit" at Dimadsoft.com -- with this tool you can burn your dvd to your hard drive, then edit your dvd using MenuEdit -- this tool lets you control menu navigation using the arrow keys on the remote control :)

Hello,
now i have tried MenuEdit and it works great! Exactly what i want. For every button i can select destinations button for every cursor key. A little trying was necessary becaus no help was available for freeware version but i found the right commands quickly. Now the menu navigation does what i want!

Thanks!
