I have a version of VideoStudio Pro X3 that came pre-installed on an HP computer. It tends to crash, but I can muddle thru to the point where I can save a project as a video file. Once that step is done, there is no option, not even a greyed out button, that allows me to burn a DVD. The saved file is there, just can't do anything with it. Been thru the process and the instructions several times, the option to burn disks seems to be missing. Is this some sort of trial version, maybe stripped down? The option to export to portable device is also limited to low res WMV, no MP4, 3g2, etc.
Any ideas? Am I missing something here? I tried to run an update, but the program comes back stating that no new updates are available.
Thanks

Re: Burning DVD's on X3
Do you also have Corel Movie Factory? If so, try it for authoring/burning DVDs.
Before you decide to buy X4, download the free trial. If X3 "doesn't like" your video files, X4 might not like them either.
Probably... The "free with hardware" versions are usually limited "SE" versions. And usually, the updates don't work on SE versions... It's really a "teaser" to get you buy the full version. (I don't know if there is an X3 SE version, or what the limitations are.)I have a version of VideoStudio Pro X3 that came pre-installed on an HP computer...

The SE version doesn't explain the crashing. Crashing usually means Video Studio is having trouble with the file/format you are feeding-in.It tends to crash, but I can muddle thru to the point where I can save a project as a video file.

Re: Burning DVD's on X3
My understanding of the software version that comes pre-installed on a computer, are OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). They should be more than the TBYB (Trial) or SE versions. The difference is that a disc for the program may not be included, and the software must remain with the computer. Corel has been doing this lately.

What is an OEM?
The acronym OEM traditionally refers to an "Original Equipment Manufacturer" for example the manufacturer of hardware components such as personal computers, scanners etc. Under the Corel OEM Program, an OEM can also refer to the supplier of other software or services, such as an internet service provider. OEM partners under the Corel OEM Program have agreements with Corel to distribute Corel software with their offering of specific products (hardware or other software) or services.

Re: Burning DVD's on X3
As explained by Ron OEM are usually program that are pre-installed on your computer. The VS X3 OEM do not have the DVD Movie Factory 2010 installed that use to create disc for the program. What you can do is to download the DVD Movie Factory 7 SE that you can download from this link.

Re: Burning DVD's on X3
Hi rsrlon
As mentioned X3 is not provided with an integral authoring module.
To complete your project you must create a video file. You then use the video file in another program to burn the disc.
DVD Movie Factory 7SE is provided as a free download which will burn your disc.--- link in Abiel’s earlier post.
If you do Share Create Video File – DVD this will render the project to a compliant video file suitable for burning a DVD.
However the properties of the template may require modifying to match some of the original videos properties.
Right click a clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?
The length of the project may affect the bitrate, how long is your movie?
You mentioned the program crashing, one of the most common problems was using the latest version of Quick Time, reverting to an earlier version may help.

Re: Burning DVD's on X3
Thanks for the info everyone. What I have is a Canon HD camcorder that creates AVCHD files. The program actually came with my wife's new computer and I was trying it out, I'd like to be able to burn an AVCHD disk to playback in a Bluray player. I have an older system that handles SD video just fine, but it's not up to HD and I wanted to sampe the Corel program. I like it, and the Quicktime issue makes sense, iTunes is on the computer, too. I'll be sure to check out the link for the DVD module. It's down to Corel and Pinnacle Studio, snd once I choose a program, I'll start on a computer to support it.

Re: Burning DVD's on X3
Hi
A little more info……….
Video Studio has always had an integrated burner module up to the release of X3.
X3 was provided with DVD Factory 2010, this program is total rubbish.
Corel in recognition of their mistake have provided DVD Movie Factory 7se available for X3 users.
This burning program is very similar to the integrated modules provided with other versions of VS including X4 the latest version.
Video Studio X4
Once you have familiarised yourself with X3, download the trial version of X4 to give it a run.
Field Orders
Your original video files will use an Upper Field First which should be used in your final movie.
Share - Create Video File—Avchd will use the correct order and create a Avchd suitable to burn to disc.
However Share - Create DVD (standard DVD) will use Lower Field possibly producing a poorer quality, you have to use either the Custom option or create your own template using Make Movie Templates Manager. If you are not intending to make a standard DVD then there’s no problem.
