The 720p avi files on my toshiba camileo s20 are not recognized by my VS pro x2. VS will not capture them either from the camera or from the sd card. It does recognize the files on the sd card and shows a thumbnail, but when I try to capture them it says it cannot do so.
I can capture the files using windows 7 moviemaker but the avi files are still not recognized by vs even though windows movie maker has no trouble with them and treats them like any avi file. I have made a dvd with windows mm using those files.
VS does handle sd avi files from my JVC camcorder but no joy with the Toshiba. I have both the 1 and 2 updates for vs x2.

Re: VS pro x2 and toshiba flip camera
There are literally hundreds of avi file types. Your computer may be missing the required codecs to handle your particular file type. Did your cam come with a disc that may have these codecs? Also, did your cam come with capture software? It is always recommended that you capture with any proprietary software, if possible.

Re: VS pro x2 and toshiba flip camera
As noted, I can capture the files with windows Movie Maker, edit them and burn a dvd, but not with VS pro. Plus, VS does not recognize the avi files captured by MM while MM has no problem with them.

Checking the specs of toshiba camileo s20 it mentioned that Recording Format is H.264 Full HD. This is most likely a codec issue.
Here are some of the codecs that you may want to install.
RealPlayer: http://www.real.com/
DivX: http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus/codec-pack
XviD: http://www.xvid.org/Downloads.15.0.html

Re: VS pro x2 and toshiba flip camera
Thanks, Codecs solved the avi files problem but still will not capture from the camera.
The error is there may be no capture device.
However, I can capture using windows movie maker and use the avi files in VS so it is not a major issue now, but any suggestions as to how to just use VS for capture would be appreciated.

Re: VS pro x2 and toshiba flip camera
You don't capture form this type of cam, you import the video files from the card.

There are a lot of people on this board who don't use VS to capture, for many varying reasons. If you can capture with MM then I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks, and that is what I will do. Really not a big deal but would be nice to have one stop shopping.Black Lab wrote:There are a lot of people on this board who don't use VS to capture, for many varying reasons. If you can capture with MM then I wouldn't worry about it.

Corel tried the one stop shopping thing, which in my opinion was a complete disaster... VS 2010, Digital Studio 2010
