n00b: Menus not working.

Post by jizlobber »

Hi all. I'm a newbie as the title says and just playing around with VS8 trying to get a handle on it. I can't get the menus to work. They're there, but they don't do anything.

The first question should be: will menus work on SVCD, or does it have to be DVD? When I put the disc in my player it automatically goes to video, not the menus. If I press the menu button it will go to the menu, but then I can't get out no matter what I press.

Has anyone seen this?

Thanks.

Edit: spelling.

What type of disc are you creating?

VCD and SVCD's use the Number Buttons on your remote control to make a selection (i.e. not the arrow buttons).

For DVD's, the arrow buttons should allow you to navigate your menu :)

Well, that answers it. Thanks.

Actually, the numbers didn't work either. But I have a really cheap DVD player.

Check if your DVD Player has a "PBC" button (I think it stands for Play Back Control, but I am not sure). I haven't done a VCD in a long time, but one of my dvd players needs me to hit that PBC button in order to get it to work...

I've noticed the same problem, if you call it that, with both VCDs and SVCDs. I've given up on menus with those, and put the information into the video itself.

Isn't a cheap DVD player more likely to play a variety of formats?

Play them? yes. Play them well? Maybe not. Just needed a region-free so I got a cheapie.

Thanks for the info.
