MF4 disc creator question with dvd ram

Post by neiltracy00 »

Have posted before and still no success, i record with dvd ram on panny e55, take to pc and my LG reader is compatible, i open MF4, extract footage from disc, it reads ok, then when importing gets to 99% and i get "invalid parameter" message, i have tried numerous from the people who have sent tips but to no avail, i was told to try and create a playlist on the recorder which i tried, no luck. i phoned tech support at ulead, they hinted at opening the disc and copying files to hard drive, when it gets to last 5 seconds the disc freezes as if at 99% and sometimes freezes the pc, I phoned Panasonic and they said what i am doing is correct as regards to recording on the disc but the problem looks like MF4, anyone else experiense this ??

Try DVDShrink to copy the folders off the disc onto your hard drive. If that works, you can then import from those DVD Folders.

Just make sure you don't set DVD Shrink to do any actual "Shrinking" -- you only want to use it copy the dvd to your hard drive.

I'm not familiar with that recorder (or dvd-ram) -- do those types of discs need to be "finalized"?

George,
DVD-Ram writes one file. It's a container for all the mpg2 files and
resides in a folder called DVD_RTAV.
The main file (container) is called VR_MOVIE.VRO

The advantage dvd-ram has over dvd-rw is it's speed in a desktop
recorder. Very fast.

OK,
After using MF3 since it first came out I've imported many ramdisks that
were single mpg2 files of 4.2 gigs.

MovieFactory 4 is working different than MF3 for importing of my ramdisks.

At the Mf4 Laucher Screen
Select Edit Disk -> Edit Dvd-vr (Top right of screen)
The video will be loaded and a timeline will appear.
At the top will say "Program" & "Playlist"
At the bottom drop down menu says "All Playlists"
When "Program" at the top is displayed the bottom drop
down menu only list the main file.

If at the top you select "Playlist" then at the bottom
the dropdown list will display the playlist(s).
Select the playlist you created.
Now the Icon on the timeline will change to the playlist.
Right click on that Icon and select "Export Video"
Save the file.

I would experiment with this module and new mode of operation.
You can create a small playlist right in the MF4 program. That will
create an icon on the timeline. Then right-click on the icon and export
the video.
It appears that any icon on the timeline if you right-click on it you can
export the video to the harddisk.

Usually though I've always had to create a playlist to get the complete
4.2 gig file or the program will lock at about 90+ %.

If there is still a problem importing the whole video try marking about
the last 10 or 15 minutes and see if that will import. There could be a
fingerprint or bad spot on the disk (had that once).

After the files are imported to the harddisk you would exit the program
and open up the regular method to create a dvd and IMPORT the files
from the harddisk that were extracted from the dvd-ram disk.
Then make chapters, menu and burn.

Hope this helps,

MD
