Why do I need Corel DVD Movie Factory?
Last year I purchased Corel Video Studio Pro3 and I just discovered that I also have the movie factory program too. It must have come bundled with VS. I'm not sure if I need it since I have the Ulead movie factory already. Besides, I don't know what movie factory would do that VS can't.
I just want to know if I can uninstall the movie factory without it affecting VS in some way. Movie factory is about 557 mbs, so it's large enough to be concerned about it using space on my computer.
Should I remove it?
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob
Corel Video Studio X3 was provided with DVD factory Pro 2010 as its authoring module and is part of the X3 installation.
The program itself is total rubbish, Corel provided DVD Movie Factory 7SE as a replacement, a free update.
If you already have DVD Movie Factory 7 then I believe you do not get the option to update, its already installed.
If you wish to burn a DVD then you need a program to do that and for X3 that’s DVD Movie Factory 7
Only one DVD Movie Factory 7 will be installed on your PC
As far as i know the purchased version of DVD Movie Factory 7 has more functionality than provided by the free update of X3.

Re: Why do I need Corel DVD Movie Factory?
DVD MF7 Pro does have more features and works better than the SE version. SE has similar burning module problems to X4, so Corel will have to decide whether to fix those bugs or create a better burning module when X5, or whatever they'll call, it is released.
Currently Corel's offering MF7 Pro FREE to X4 purchasors. I'm guessing this is the cheapest way to "fix" X4's burning module prollems.

You keep mentioning problems with X4's burning module, but I don't recall any such problems being complained about here. What exactly are they? Most people, to the contrary, seem thrilled just to have the 'old' burning module from X2 and earlier versions back -- me included!

Re: Why do I need Corel DVD Movie Factory?
No, I'm referring to fact that in the X4 burn module if you don't have motion menu and use a music file for the menu checked, it craps out in the assemble phase w/"unspecified error" message.
MF7 Pro doesn't. So, I'm glad they are now giving it away.
I don't mind creating the video file 1st and creating the menu separately....long as it works.
The above has been documented and reported by more than just me.

Hi
I wasn’t aware that DVD MF 7SE suffered the same problems as X4’s authoring regarding the sound file. Is this correct.
I didn’t have a problem with the program failing as I always use some form of audio on my menu’s.
As Bob says he has the full version, so he is not gonna see these issues as the SE version will not be installed.
Edited post
Ok I have checked DVD MF 7SE and yes I do get similar fails similar to X4’s authoring module. Obviously I missed that during the original posts.

Re: Why do I need Corel DVD Movie Factory?
MF7 Pro doesn't have this burn module failure (probly has others I've not yet found), hence my comments re. it's now being bundled FREE with x4.
In spite of the moderators opines on the subject, I'm confident there WILL BE an X4 replacement this year.
Just a feeling. Competition is intense in editing software arena. I know because I've evaluated every competing product (cept for the Apple products).

Re: Why do I need Corel DVD Movie Factory?
IMO VideoStudio isn't a big money maker for them so the chances of a major overhaul are slim.
There are two things that raise red flags for me (a) they don't seem to keep up to date with formats used in current cameras (the cameras people are buying now, not ones they bought a few years ago), and (b) the burning module doesn't appear to have been significantly updated in quite a few years and is now out of date.
The thing that annoys me most is that the burning module doesn't allow you to burn bluray discs using H.264 with bit rates above 20 Mbps. Since pretty much most cameras will shoot at 24 Mbps nowdays, the best quality mode can't be converted to disk without suffering significant degradation. VS itself CAN generate edited files at that bit rate, it just can't make discs (and before anyone gets on that horse, I'm NOT talking about AVCHD discs, I'm talking about true Bluray discs).
