Video Studio 12 does not open

Post by Taamalus »

Before posting this I did try to contact Customer service, and searched this forum. - The catch, the program simply does not open. Thus I can not get a serial number. And you can not post a question on the web site without it. I did register the product, but my account only shows the Corel Paint program not the Video one. Both came bundled with my laptop.

It worked fine about a half a year ago. Now I have more videos I want to edit. So I tried to use Video Studio and it does not open nor give any warning messages, as to why not. Any suggestions on what to do? :(

Hi

How are you trying to open the program?

Locate this file--- vstudio.exe------
It is located here for XP ----C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X4
Assume a similar location using Windows 7

Double click the file, does the program open.

If yes right click the file and select “send to desktop” or “create a shortcut”

If the program does not open- reinstall the program
Uninstall information

Taamalus, if you installed VS X2 on your Windows 7 computer that can be the problem. VideoStudio 12 is not compatible with Windows 7, that can be the reason why you cannot install the program since the incompatibility with Windows 7 is messing up the installation process.

You can visit http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 4516325170, to know which version of the Corel Software is compatible with Windows 7.

There is a workaround for you to make old program works on Windows 7, however we cannot assure you this is a 100% fool proof. You can use the Windows 7 Program Compatibility and the Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC, which are both from Microsoft.

You can follow the steps for Windows 7 Program Compatibility from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... of-Windows

You can download and install the Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC from this link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtua ... nload.aspx.

Abiel ... with respect, that is at best misleading! X2 may not have been totally 'compatible' as such with Windows 7 simply because it was produced before Windows 7 was released -- that is true. And there were of course problems, particularly in the burning module where, in the original version, some of the buttons were missing. But Corel itself made the program compatible with Win 7 by issuing a patch -- which I assume Taamalus can download and install, and then see if X2 will work.

But there are quite a few users out there who have X2 happily working on Win 7 by use of the patch and not even thinking about going into compatibility mode with XP... myself included.

In any case, Taamalus is not himself trying to install the program. It was pre-installed on his computer when he bought the computer... If the manufacturer provided a disc with the installation program on it, then maybe a reinstall -- plus the patch -- might fix things.

First off. Thanks for actually permitting to post my question and for all the replies.

The phenomena I have is that the program worked about six month ago, I still have the videos; but now when I click on the menu item: All Programs > Corel VideoStudio 12 > Corel VideoStudio 12, I see the circular Wait Icon for about a second, and then nothing else. I double clicked on the .exe file in the program folder, as suggested by Trevor, with the same result.

@ Abiel - I'm not sure about the compatibility with Windows7 and this specific version of the Video Studio, yet it did work.

And this is the catch 22. The CDs or in this case DVDs have the entire set of all programs merged, and can (should) only be used when I need to make a full recovery of the computer. I have no clue how to unistall the one program and re-install it with those DVDs

So, here is my next question. When you have opened Video Studio, and you register the program, where or on which site is the program registered? (I have two accounts with Corel, one is business and one is hobby. All programs that I registered are there, except this Video Studio one, why I don't know either.)
Or any other ideas you may have. :D

Hi

Have you tried inserting the system disc, Explore the disc to view its content, maybe the Video Studio installation files are separate from the operating system ones.

Or does it give you various options to install the Utilities (additional programs) other than the operating system.

Registering, this has no affect on the running of the program, it will however allow you access to Corel’s Support
Maybe Abiel could help out here………………….

Clutching at straws……….

I doubt if this is showing on your system, but sometimes if my program hasn’t closed correctly it leaves the “vstudio.exe” showing in the Processes list within the Windows Task Manager.
The program will not start till I either reboot or select to “end the process” (vstudio.exe)
I am then able to start Video Studio.
Before trying to open the VS program, Can you look at your Windows Task Manager—Processes—vstudio.exe should not be listed.

Hello Trevor. Nah, I'm the user for all programs, and the admin is myself also. The accounts refer to Corel's data base. One for my business and one for myself ( it's to keep taxes clear ).

As for Abiel - how can one show the program was legitimately obtained? The time involved on my side, the seller of the laptop and Corel's is not worth it, I think. I traced the registry, the Video Studio version was from 2008, on a 2010 laptop. The DVDs contain only the bundled programs from the laptop manufacturer, not the extras I requested. - It's a relative inexpensive program. So, it looks like I'll do some shopping, and may have some questions on how to make a better video.

Lastly - I tried to uninstall the program, and that too failed. It looks like somewhere, sometimes ago the registry got corrupted. Whatever the cause was, it could not have anything to do with the program itself; and for me this topic is solved – there are no answers.

Best Regards
Henry :)

Hi Henry

Uninstall……………I gave you a link to uninstall details in my first post, should help in uninstalling.

I would have thought inserting the backup disc would give you options as to what to do next.

Repair operating system
Reinstall operating system
Or maybe install extras, utilities

But I am not certain and I do not want you to mess up the operating system just for VS 12.
Others on the forum may have better ideas………………..

Hello Trevor!
Thanks again for your help. This forum seems to care, that's something.

Anyways - manual uninstall – the trouble is I'm on Windows7 and have to deal with issues not listed on the page and other pre-installed programs, that make a manually removal somewhat difficult, so I use other programs (to new here to list those, I think) to do it for me.

The old Video Studio 12 is gone, and X4 is here.

Regards Henry
