DVD Movie Factory 8 To Be or Not To Be

Post by Budda_357 »

Hi, Guys
V7 has been around for almost 3 years now even Win 7 is getting close to its 2nd birthday and Corel have only released 1 version of DVD Movie Factory since taking over from ULead.
Does anybody know if Corel are ever going to release a new version of this DVD authoring software or looking like Corel will incorporate slimmed down SE versions in Video Studio only? :?:
Cheers From Down Under

Since none of us here works for Corel -- apart from Abiel who makes occasional guest appearances -- no one will have any definitive answer to this. It has been discussed before, and the general consensus -- at least a couple of years ago -- was that Corel had decided to dump MF as it has with other programs like DVD Workshop, Media Studio Pro and PhotoImpact. In fact MF 7 at the time of its release was a case in point since there was no general release of it all around the world. I was living in Australia, which was one of the few areas where it was released, but major markets like North America could not access it... That was a clear indication at the time that Corel was intending to dump it.

Admittedly, things have changed with the debacle that followed Video Studio X3's release with that joke of a burning module taken out of the awful Corel Digital Studio 2010 package. The subsequent release by Corel of MF 7 SE went a large way to salvage the company's reputation with VS users, and the reintroduction of the 'old' pre-X3 burning module in VS X4 has consolidated that. And it now seems that people more generally around the world can actually buy MF 7 Pro these days as it is advertised on the Corel website.

But no, there is no indication at all that an MF 8 is being planned...  Though it would be nice to think that Corel may now at least be prepared to think about it...

When MF7 first came out I tried to get someone to ID improvements over MF6+ to no avail. AFAICT the only changes to v7 were cosmetics i.e. changed "Ulead" to "Corel". I hope someone will come here and tell me I'm wrong, and that there are "improvements to x, y, and z" but until then I'll believe MF7 is a waste for MF6+ owners.

According to your sig you have MF6+ (with HD plugin?) and earlier versions, so if you decide to update to MF7 I elect You to tell us how it's improved! :P

I'd be surprised if we see a new version though. If Corel hasn't already laid-off the entire MF team, probably the key members of it flew the coop long ago anyway.
