Getting Video From TV to Camera(Passthrough)

Post by bigmac94 »

OK here we go.
My computer died... now was faced with new Prob. to windows 7 or not. Anyway aquired a whole host of new problems with Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit.
Had a working system with XP pro & TRV33 Passthrough Camera. Was told By a Rep. From Corel, The Camera was not Supported in Movie Factory 7 Pro & Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, so we searched
for a Camera that would be Supported in Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit and Corels Movie Factory 7 pro.
Well after quite a difficult search we settled on DCR HC96 because it not only was supported in Windows 7 Pro 64 bit but it was also a Passthrough Camera
And I could hopefully put my Indianapolis Colts Games on the computer and Take out all the Commercials and finally put my games on Hidef DVDs.
Well needless to say,The DCR HC96 did not work, not only did the camera not work in Movie Factory 7 it no longer worked in Movie Factory 5 . like I said had a working
system with XP Pro and the TRV33 Passthrough Camera.
Now.. did some troubleshooting, and hooked the new to me DCR HC96 up to the wifes laptop running Vista. Using Movie Factory 5 ... All Worked.
There has to be some small setting I`m overlooking in Movie Factory 7 Pro.. Using Firewire & have latest Drivers.. Camera Works... It takes 11seconds of video and
Quits with Corupted Video Error
one other thing.. in Movie Factory 5, Video shows in the Viewing window right away, with Movie Factory 7 Pro Y`All must click on the button to start saving to get Video to show up.

Welcome to the forums, :)

Try using WinDV a free very lightweight DV via Firewire capture utility to get your video to your PC. I'm not sure if it will work on Win7 but worth a try. Some of the latter programs, have problems with analog>digital passthrough capturing. I've been using WinDV for quite sometime.

Download it here:

Basically this has been a problem since VS 11. DVD MF7 came out at about the same time, or shortly thereafter. They changed the capture plug-in, and since then, it just doesn't like analog video.

Thank You...
Had a thought It might be something small I failed to do in Movie Factory 7 pro....
Checked into Program you sugested,Did not see if it was Suported by Windows 7 & it might not be suported in the 64 bit mode
As I`ve stated I can capture with the Vista Laptop... Don`t know if the Movie Factory 5 & 7 will play nice
by that I mean the whole purpose for upgrading was to go with High Def. now will I be able to put the Video on my computer
with Movie Factory 5 & Edit it with Movie Factory 7.... The first part I have been doing, however Don`t know why it changed
when I had to ReInstall.
Changed the Capture Driver... that was Dumb!!! Y`All know you don`t change when it aint broke Grrr.

If Its Worth Doing.. Its Worth Doing Best you Can

A video file is a file. Once you get it onto your PC, you can use whatever program you want to edit it. So yes capture it with MF5 and edit it with MF7.

Now I'm going to point out that WinDV is meant for standard def video only. For high-def video from Mini-DV camcorders, lookup HDV Split.
