DVD import and subtitles

Post by BigBill »

Hi
I am using VideoStudio 3x
I've imported a DVD that contains subtitles -
when I view the resulting Mpeg file within the program, the subtitles are displayed
when I view the mpeg through another viewer (ie Windows media player) - the subtitles are NOT visible
if I burn the mpeg to a DVD - again - the subtitles are neither visible nor available

how do I either -
extract the subtitles into an srt file -
or make them visible in the other viewers?

- odd thing - when I view the original DVD I can turn the subtitles on or off - but
when I try to extract them directly from the source - I get an empty file (go figure)

thanks

Hello,

You may need to look for the subtitle settings on Windows Media Player. You can press ALT on the keyboard then PLAY > LYRICS, CAPTION AND SUBTITLE > ON IF AVAILABLE.

To extract the subtitle. Click on the Add Title button(capital T), then click on the Options pop up menu, and you should see the Open open subtitle file. However if the subtitle is an embedded sub, there's no way to extract it.

You can also browse the DVD then there should be a subtile folder containing either the .SRT or .SUB file.
