VOB files mismatch

Post by jaysto »

Hello
I have two video files VTS_01. and VTS_ 02, they are VOB files roughly 30 min in duration. The files have been copied from a DVD RW disc. the content is a TV recording. I have been trying to copy them into Corel Pro 3 for editing purposes. all I get is file mismatch (unable to open file , file mismatch).can anybody explain why this is, and how i can copy them to Pro3.
Any help will be most appreciated
Thank you

How are you trying to get these files into video studio, can you tell us the steps you are taking.
You should, if I do this right from memory, import digital media, navigate to the dvd disc and click on the file. May be wrong as I can't get to VS from this computer :)

The even simpler answer, if the above does not compute, is that VS cannot use VOB files in that same format... You either import them as described above, or you could even try changing the .vob extension to mpg...

Thank you all for your replies I shall try changing the file name. Now the file names are VTS_01 VOB and VTS_ 02_ VOB. Will I just change the name to MPEG...? and then by right clicking the files and clicking rename.
Many thanks for all help

I'm not sure whether you have just not typed the names of your files correctly or whether they are actually called what you have typed - if they have come from a standard DVD they should be called VTS_01_1.VOB and VTS_01_2.VOB - that is not what you have typed - but is it what yours really are ??

If yes then when you rename to mpg you just simply change the extension so that they become VTS_01_1.mpg and VTS_01_2.mpg.

If no and your original post is correct - where did these files come from ?

OK - I suggest you try Trevors suggestion first - as the normal way - then if that does not work try the re-naming.

Yes indeed if you want them all in VideoStudio - but are you sure all 7 are VOB files - thats quite a big video - in a DVD folder there are a number of other files with similar names but do not have the .vob extension (they may be BUF or IFO) - you only need the vob files in VS - so you only need to rename vob files.

just a warning - if you are going to burn the result to a DVD then 7 .VOB will not fit on a standard DVD - your talking dual layer at least.

Hi Jack

This may help.......................
Jaysto.JPG
Jack please rename the highlighted files to :-

VTS_01_1.mpg
VTS_01_2.mpg

You should then be able to insert them to video studio

Ok Gentlemen,
I have renamed the VOB file exactly as described, I then imported VTS_01_1.mpg. onto the time line and yes it played ok. Spured on I tried inserting a title at the begining of the clip. Clicking play from the start of the clip, Pro X 3 said No...! and promptly crashed, saying ProX3 had a problem and had to close down the programe simply refused to do anything. I tried this 2/3 time exactly the same thing happened.
Now I have tried to restore the mpg files to the original VOB format using system restore to the previous day, the files remain still as Mpg files, so i have now to find a way of being able to edit the mpg files. I still cannot find out how to insert a picture into this reply
Any suggestions gladly welcomed.
Thank you

To insert, upload, an attachment, when you're typing in your reply, look down at the bottom left. You should see 2 tabs, Option and Upload Attachment. Click on the obvious one, Upload attachment. Then you will see Filename: with an empty box, and to its right a button, Browse. Click the button, browse on your system to where the photo is located. Select it. The file name will appear in the box. Now you must click the button, Add the file. It will then be uploaded.

Keep in mind that the web board software imposes a maximum file size limit, and is set to resize by dimensions, any photo that exceeds that. This should not be a problem as it does not take huge-resolution images to depict an issue.

Using system restore on a computer never changes any user files - only system files - so using system restore will never change an mpeg back to vob - you can if you wish do it manually - exactly as you renamed vob to mpg in reverse. but then you will only be back where you started.

You said originally that you had these VOB files - but are they just files or are they inside a Video_TS folder . I am wondering if that is why you are having a problem - when importing videos from DVD to videostudio one normally browses to a video_TS folder and videostudio sorts itself out - but are you just browsing straight to a vob file ?
