I used vs9 the same way that I did vs8 when putting the clips into the timeline etc and then saving it all to a file. But the quality is really bad in vs9, there is square pixelation coming through and it is quite unclear. Why did I bother to buy the mpeg 4 add on. I was better off with vs8 without the mpeg 4 add on.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
mpeg4 clips worse on vs9 than vs8

I have v9 and I think it is so stupid that they are requesting that people buy the add on. What I've been doing instead of using mpeg4 files is converting them from mpeg4 to avi with ImTOO mpeg converter. It will only convert 5 minutes worth of each file without subscription but it will do this much free of charge and the quality on v9 is great. I'm not sure if that made much sense but try and find ImTOO and use that.
