OK, I INSTALLED DAZZLE VIDEO CAPTURE DEVICE...WORKS FINE WITH EVERY THING..OTHER VIDEO SOFTWARE, CAMCORDER ETC....EXCEPT VIDEOSTUDIOPRO X4.
WHEN I TRY TO CAPTURE FROM MY VCR...I GET ERROR MESSAGE: UNABLE TO SWITCH TO CAPTURE MODE.....CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR VIDEO DRIVER IS WORKING PROPERLY. AND YES IT IS....I CAN CAPTURE WITH PINNACLE SOFTWARE AND OTHERS....JUST NOT THIS X4 PROGRAM. I UNINSTALLED THIS PROGRAM AND RE-INSTALLED IT...I REBOOTED , I CLEANED REGISTRY, EMPTIED TEMP FILES, DEFRAGMENTED THE HD....NOTHING WORKS.
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM??? DO I NEED TO DOWNLOAD A DRIVER FOR COREL ??? PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU

Re: VSPRO X4 CAPTURE PROBLEM
Welcome to the forums,
Is your caps-lock key stuck? I'm hard of hearing but not of reading, so PLEASE DON'T SHOUT.
Now, Dazzle is one of Pinnacle's creations. It is proprietary, and Pinnacle does not want it to work with other NLEs like VS. So the way around this is to use whatever capture software that came with your Dazzle, to capture the video to your computer. Once it's there, you should be able to insert it into VS for editing. I don't use VS to capture/transfer my video, I use a third-party program called WinDV, to transfer any DV video. I've never liked the ridiculous naming convention VS uses.

Re: VSPRO X4 CAPTURE PROBLEM
Simple answer, I am afraid. Your device is made by Pinnacle and they maintain proprietary rights over the code for capturing using the device. In other words, they haven't shared the "secret" with Corel. This has been a longstanding situation. So in other words, you have to capture with the Pinnacle software which came with the device, and then you can open the video in VS for editing.
The situation is not unique to Pinnacle. A number of other capture device manufacturers do the same thing. And our recommendation is always to use the capture software which comes with the device.
And don't get too hung up over not being able to do everything in VS. Many of us here use quite a few different programs in any one video project, from capturing onwards, and including 3D titling programs, third party transitions and filters, audio editing software and such, and even authoring/burning software at the end...
EDIT: Ron beat me to the punch, but at least our answers coincide!!!

Re: VSPRO X4 CAPTURE PROBLEM
Well....ok thanks for clearing that up guys. and Sorry for the Caps....I didn't even notice it. except I have to get up close to the monitor to see what
I'm writing. easier for me to see with my CAPS on...lol. that's what happens when reach 70 years of age.
anyway, thanks again. I don't understand the "proprietary" stuff.......as Rodney said: "Can't we just get along ??" lol.
