Corel Video Studio Pro X3 and Corel DVD Factory 2010

Post by kevsim »

I am not sure if this is the correct place to put this query, if incorrect please advise where to place it.

I was previously using Puremotion Edit Studio which was an excellent programme and great support, but due to the sale of the company to new owners there is very little support, so am now trying a trial version of Corel Video Studio Pro X3 and except for a few small issues I find it very good, the issues are as follows –

1/ If I have an MPEG video clip on the video track (I have also used AVI clips) and I select 5.1 sound it makes horrible noises like a machine gun when played, if I then highlight a clip and play it everything is OK.
I also noticed since installing Corel Video Studio, if I build a movie in Nero and use the Nero 5.1 plugin it also makes these strange noises.
When using Stereo in either programme all is OK.
My sound card is Creative Sound Blaster Live Value.

2/ I place chapter marks on my timeline and when I select Create Disk, Corel DVD Factory 2010 starts, it shows tabs Import, Create, Copy, Print and Share, this page then disappears before I can select anything and another page opens to select my template, but I can find no way to bring what was in the timeline into this programme.
If I go to menu editing and select Insert Chapters my programme on the timeline appears but not with the chapter marks previously selected.
This feature and 5.1 sound mixer was one of my main reasons for trialling the programme.
Is there anywhere I can download a manual or a tutorial for Corel DVD Factory 2010?

3/ Corel Video Studio Pro X3 had many crashes, it appears to happen when making sound edits even in Stereo.

4/ Is there anyway to put Transitions on the time line between a main video track clip and an overlay track clip.

I would appreciate any advise on the above as if they can be solved I will purchase the product.

Welcome to the forums, :)

Where are you located? The most recent version is VS X4. I would highly recommend that you forget about VS X3, as the DVD authoring program provided with it, DVD Factory 2010 is pure junk!! Click on the link at the top of the web board that says Free Trials. It will take you to Corel's website where you can download the free trial of VS X4, which is much better than VS X3.

Ron P,
Thank you for the advise.
I downloaded Corel Video Studio Pro X4, 764Mb file and now have problems installing.
Every thing starts OK, then a black window appears with a white bar through it and a message "Initializing the Installation Wizard, Please Wait".
The window then turns black and the only visible button is "Cancel" and nothing more appears to happen.
I waited for one hour but everything remained the same, I tried this three times.
I am running Windows XP Pro
2.66 MHz processor
3 GB memory
9GB memory free on "C" drive ( I have other drives connected)

I would appreciate some advise.

If you are installing the trial on the system that you have on your profile that could be the problem. since VS X4 requires you to have atleast "Intel® Core™ Duo 1.83 GHz, AMD Dual-Core 2.0 GHz or higher recommended "

Here's the complete System Requirements of VideoStudio Pro X4.
Microsoft® Windows® 7, Windows Vista® or Windows® XP with latest service packs installed (32-bit or 64-bit editions)
Intel® Core™ Duo 1.83 GHz, AMD Dual-Core 2.0 GHz or higher recommended
1 GB RAM (2 GB or higher recommended)
128 MB VGA VRAM or higher (256 MB or higher recommended)
3 GB of free hard drive space
Minimum display resolution: 1024 x 768
Windows®-compatible sound card
Windows®-compatible DVD-ROM drive for installation
Recordable Blu-ray™ drive required for creating Blu-ray™ discs
Internet connection required for online features and tutorial videos

Abiel Corel NA,
Thanks for the reply.
I found the problem last night.
I wanted to turn off my virus checker to see if the programme would install and this could only be done in Admin Services, when I tried to open Services I was told something about my settings would not allow display because active X was blocked.
I found a solution and went to the registry key below and made the following changes, now Video Studio X4 is installed and running.
I still have Video Studio X3 installed and running.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0

Remove entry before the Zero if any there.
Modify 1200 and type in a Zero.

Wow, and I have it installed on my old desktop, running WIn XP SP 3, using an AMD Athlon 64 3200+. Not a dual core, or duo core. Seems to run fine for what I do with it. I don't attempt to work with HD video, just SD, DV and MPEG-2. I never had a problem installing any of alpha, beta or initially a TBYB version because of my system.

Ron P,
Thanks for the info.
I was previously using Corel Video Studio Pro X3 and was advised from Ron P. above, to download version X4, I downloaded Corel Video Studio Pro X4 and it is a great improvement over X3.

However I am still having sound problems, I have had it crash a few times and it always happens when I am making sound adjustments.
Also when I select 5.1 sound and play the movie, it sounds like a machine gun, both these problems also happened in the X3 version.

I also downloaded Cyberlink Power Producer 9 Trial Version and used the same files as I did in X4 and did not have any crashes or sound problems.
The total project for a 1 hour 5 minutes of video took 2 hours (actually a few minutes less), including burning the disk.

I do tend to favour X4, if the sound issues could be cleared up.

I would appreciate some advise.

It seems that there's something about your audio that VS is not liking. With your video file(s) in the timeline or library, right-click select properties and post them here. We don't know if you're using SD (standard-def) or HD (hi-def) video files, and there are some differences in them.

Do you have iTunes? If so I can tell you that the version of QuickTime Player VS uses conflicts with the version iTunes uses. I don't if and when Corel is going to get this right. For about the last 3 versions, they have been behind the ball with QT player versions. It seems that we must roll-back (install an earlier version) the QT player.

VS X3 & X4 both come with Smart Sound Quicktracks 5. This version allows you more control of the music, using what SmartSound calls Moods. Quicktracks uses QuickTime player. I have a sticky topic at the top of this forum that has a link to download earlier versions of QuickTime player.

And the audio you are working with is the audio from the video clips? You have not added any audio files?

FWIW, I have iTunes on my computer. I have never rolled back my QT version, and I do not have problems with audio. :?

What I have found is to play the 5.1 audio, play, pause, play again and so on, it will finally play in 5.1.
There is no sequence in doing this sometime 12 or more times, other 3 or 4 times, each time it is done there is a change of tone with the machine gun effect.
It is extremely annoying, could it possible be a codec doing it and if so how could I track it down?

I tried burning the movie from the timeline directly to disk, it had 5.1 sound set and working but the disk produced 2 channel stereo.
There is nowhere in the authoring software to set the sound type.

I then saved the movie to DVD and by doing this I was able to have 5.1 sound on the saved mpg file.

Besides the fault with the annoying sound, it appears there are some other problems.
Corel software used to be great, but I am having my doubts at the moment.

My trial period will be over before I have the software working correctly.

I have also added an attachment showing track properties with a sound clip on the music track, still with the same problem.
