Saving HD clips in 1280x720

Post by Centauri27 »

Hi.

First time poster, long time VideoStudio user.

My question: I prefer to shoot my videos in 720p, to optimally match my TV. I see that in VideoStudio, the only 720p option is by using HDV. Is there any other way to get 1280x720 output? I see that AVCHD and Blu-Ray only offers 1980 and 1440 options, both which resize my videos (which I do not want). I'd like to save back as 1280x720 MP4, but VS's MP4 option doesn't provide this.

(Now that I think about it, why does VideoStudio offer 1440 rather than 1280? I thought 1920x1080 and 1280x720 were the common HD formats.)

Thanks.

Not sure if this is what you are after, but if you choose Share > Create Video File > Custom, then choose "MPEG Transport Stream" as the format, you can get what you are after in the Options button. In the dialogue box which appears, under the Compression tab, you can select H.264 as the format (the default is MPEG-2). And then on the General tab, if you change the frame rate from the default 25/30 fps to 50/60 (i.e. full progressive), then you will see that the only option is for it to produce 1280 x 720.

As for why 1440 x 1080 is there, it's because it was originally often used in early AVCHD camcorders, as well as HDV ones. And I think it was there well before 1280 x 720p was developed, but I could be wrong on that...

Thanks for the tip, Ken--I'll give that a try. Sounds exactly like what I need. But it sure looks like a lot of work just to get your results in the same format as the input files! I had poked around creating a custom file, but only found settings that went up to 720x480.
