Workaround for "Plugin can't read the requested format"

Post by aldridgem »

Hi All,

Am new to this forum, but thought I would post an intetesting observation regarding a .DDS plug-in I have been using in PhotoX3.

I get the error "Plugin can't read requested format" when trying to open a .DDS file, however other .DDS files open and are working on my PC.

I traced this issue down to where the image file is located. If it's buried in several subfolders it looks like PhotoX3 can not handle long paths for the filename. It looks like around 100 characters is the limit give or take.

The work-around is to either re-locate the file to a higher level folder e.g. trying placing the image file on your Desktop then open it or try shortening some of the folder names used in the path. :)

With that done, opening the .DDS file occurs without the error.

Since I only have this plug-in installed, this isue may crop up for other plug-ins I suspect.

Apologies if this issue is already known. I tried searching the forums prior to posting this but could not find anything.

Hope this helps...

Regards
Mark

Interesting tid-bit there. Thank you for pointing it out.

I've only ever seen that error when I'm typing in the full path to the file in question and the full path is longer than 100 characters. If I actually navigate to the path, however, I have never seen this problem.

Since it does occur when you have a format supplied by a plugin selected in the format drop down it is a definite problem with plugins only. But so long as I'm actually navigating through the folders instead of typing in the location I'm usually good to go.

Hi, I actually registered here to try and PM you but no info. So will post here with a hope of an answer. After seeing your post you gave me hope that this might work.

So I moved the NormalMapFilter64.8bf file into a folder created here d:\ddsplugin

I then loaded Corel Photo Pro X3 and went to file\preferences\file locations and selected plugins from the menu on the side and assigned the directory I had created to d:\ddsplugin

Then closed and re-opened and it still doesn't work :(

Any help?

Thanks
Stu
