Recovery from Mobo-HD failure

Post by 1inthedesert »

Hello All,
Hope someone can help. After a Motherboard failure and partial HD failure I'm attempting to rebuild and replace lost software.

I had originally loaded the boxed version of Video Studio 11 Plus and later did an upgrade to Video Studio Pro X2 via a download from Corel...previous system was XP.

From what I've read it appears that I will need to: Reload the Boxed version of VS 11Plus, and then download the upgrade version of VS Pro X2 from Corel's website. I can view my serial number of the VS Pro X2 on Corel's website from when it was registered. The new OS on this computer is Windows 7 64Bit. Does this seem feasible, or is there perhaps a better way.

Also it appears some of my VS Database files are still recoverable from the old HD. Should I be able to import them into the new?

Welcome to the forums,

You do have the download (ESD) files for VS X2? If not did you purchase an activation key, or did you purchase the full/upgrade? If you purchased an activation key, you will need to find someplace to get another TBYB (trial) version to download. I think that even if you purchased upgrade insurance at the time of your original purchase, that may now be expired, as it is only 2 yrs. If you have the the install files, then all you should need is the serial number for your qualifying upgrade version (VS11). VS X2 will ask for that serial number during the install routine. You don't need to have it installed.

Ron,
Thanks for the response. I do not have the ESD files for VS X2, so it sounds as if I may need to revert back to using the boxed version of VS 11 plus. On a cursory glance I do not see anyone offering the trial versions of VS X2. The only record of my having purchased the product appears on Corel's website listing an 18 digit serial number.

I'll take a chance and submit my query to Corel support to see if there is anything they might be able to do.

I do thank you for taking the time to respond.

Best

Ron,
Back up and running with VS X2. Thought I would pass along how, in case someone else finds themselves in a similar situation.

I did find three websites offering VX X2 trial versons, but gave up on them as all were very slow transfer rates...http://www.freedownloadsplace.com/Produ ... oStudio-X2 http://downloads.phpnuke.org/en/downloa ... 2BPLUS.htm http://www.fyxm.net/corel-video-studio-12-44527.html . The second site listed has a bit of a suspiscous name, but they appear to be selling legit software, as well as offering trial versions. Their site was also checked out by Norton who claims them clean, despite the name.

Going back to Corel's website and logging in I find a copy of my online download/order listing the serial number of the VS X2 upgrade. When I open the order number link, lo and behold there is a link to download the software again, along with links to download a Pro X2 Content Pack, and a Bonus Pack which were also purchased at the same time. I did not find these files anywhere on Corel's public website, only when I logged in to view my account.

Download the ESD file from Corel, ran install which asked for the serial number which I got from Corel's website, and next page asked for my upgrade serial number which I had on my retail boxed version, and all seems like new again. Two lessions here...Register your software, and back it up. :D :D :D

I don't know why you tacked this onto a thread from 2011. But in any case this Board does NOT cover Corel DRAW. That has a separate forum for which you must register separately: https://community.coreldraw.com
