How can I edit in reaction shots?

Post by Ian S »

For example, I have a clip of a speech. I would like to insert a reaction shot of the audience clapping (say), but need to keep the audio track from the original clip all the way through (not have it interrupted by the audio from the reaction shot, which was actually taken at a different time).

Sorry if this is easy please just say so and I'll re-read the manual, but it didn't jump out at me first time round

You can accomplish that quite easily ...

1. Have your main speech video inserted in the main timeline.

2. Insert the video clip of audience reaction in the Overlay track at the point where you want to switch. The Overlay clip takes precedence over the main project clip. You can mute the sound of the overlay track so that the viewer still hears only the main clip audio.

3. There are other effects that smoothen the transition from main to overlay and back, like fades, pan, zoom, etc.

Enjoy!
