Re: VideoStudio X4 Pro - Error during burn
May I jump in here. I have been watching this thread with interest and as it seems to have reached an impasse I thought I would try to replicate the problem. I downloaded the trial version of VSx4 onto my older XP Machine. I have a short video file that I have already saved as a compliant MPEG 2 file, imported that to the timeline, Share > Create Disc . Got the same "Unspecified error" message. Tried to create the iso file, same error message. Tried Create DVD Folders. No problem it is creating them now. Will come back later with result. Next I will install VSx4 on my Win 7 machine but I have a sneaky feeling the result will be the same. BTW the video file I am using worked perfectly in VSx3 with creating a Disc direct, creating DVD folders and iso file. Too early to come to any conclusions but baronik you do not appear to be alone!

Re: VideoStudio X4 Pro - Error during burn
Well here's an update. I burnt the two DVD folders to a disc on the XP machine using BurnAware Free as i normally would and it works perfectly!
Have now got VSx4 on my Win 7 Machine and used the same video clip. I can produce a DVD direct, a set of DVD folders and an iso file with no problem and they all work perfectly.
First conclusion. It is not a bug in VS x4!
There's something in my XP machine that is not compatible. Either a codec not up to date or more likely (I think) something in the burning software that is not quite up to speed!
No idea how to diagnose that though and there is no guarantee that what is wrong with my old XP machine is the same fault that baronik has.
Just one suggestion I would make to baronic. Try running the sfc command. If you are not familiar with that here's how:
On Windows 7
Click the Orb (start button), type cmd in the search box then RIGHT click on the result at the top that reads "cmd.exe" and click "Run as administrator" Then when the command window opens at the curser type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes (note the space after the "c")
Press Enter and let it run. This will check all your system files and try to repair or replace any damaged or corrupt files. You might have to do this 2 or 3 times to clear them all.
If it doesn't copy and paste the results here.

Re: VideoStudio X4 Pro - Error during burn
Hi John,
Got a day job to do now, so posts will be less frequent. Thanks for your feedback and attempting to reproduce the error on multiple OS's. Tried the Windows component scan and nothing is amiss on my main development machine.
I'm pretty well convinced that it has something to do with my system config...that there is something that is interacting with the Corel burn components. I can burn DVD Video quality DVDs with other programs (Nero, Windows DVD Maker) on this same box, just not with VS X4 Pro. The box I have been doing 100% of the VS X4 Pro testing on is the box I use for all of my software architecture/engineering activities and I have several different flavors of development environments, SDKs, toolkits, and the like on it, so there may be a negative or cancelling interaction that is occurring on this box.
I have other boxes available for testing and will give it a go on them when I get a chance. One is another Win 7 Ultimate box, but it is used for standard consumer activities and hardly has any third-party software on it, so it may be a good choice. The other box is my domain controller with SBS 2008 on it and I'd rather not load this on that box, but it would be easy enough to back out if there issues. So we'll see...
Thanks again.

Re: VideoStudio X4 Pro - Error during burn
Hi Kevin
Thanks for coming back, I am loath to delve any further into my system on my old machine as it is quietly going along doing what I ask of it whilst leaving my Win 7 machine to do the real work. Would be very interested to hear what happens when you install VS x4 onto you other Win 7 machine!

Re: VideoStudio X4 Pro - Error during burn
VS X4 Pro status on new Win 7 box (Dell Inspiron Zino HD, AMD Athlon II P340 Dual-Core, 6GB RAM, Win-7 Ultimate X64). Installed latest DirectX 11 updates. Then installed VS X4 Pro barebones on it with no bonus material.
Tests executed:
1) New project, Edit -> add MPEG-2 video created from VS, then Share -> Create disc -> DVD (as well as Create disc image).
2) New project, Share -> Create disc -> DVD, add MPEG-2 video created from VS.
Both tests failed with the same error originally reported ("Unspecified Error 5:0:0")
Wondering if it has anything to do with 64bit OS...all my client and server boxes are x64.
Very discouraged

I wouldn't think it has anything to do with it being Win 7 64 bit since quite a few of our users have that OS...

Re: VideoStudio X4 Pro - Error during burn
I have given more thought to this one and suddenly I remembered that years ago before I started using Video Studio I used AVS software and very good it was too. I used a Forum there and recalled a case where Nero seemed to cause a conflict within the burning module in AVS Video Editor. I looked on my XP machine (where I had the same error message as Kevin) and found it had an old copy of Nero Essentials installed. I never use this software so uninstalled it and cleaned up the registry. Result, can now Burn a successful Disc or iso image in VS X4 on that XP machine so it was Nero causing the problem for me. I see that you mentioned Nero in a couple of your posts Kevin so maybe that is your problem too! Whether you could uninstall both VS and Nero then reinstall VS first then Nero I don't know, havent tried that as my old copy of Nero is on a Dell Software disc so not really worth trying. I don't use it anyway. Always found Burn Aware Free so much better!

Re: VideoStudio X4 Pro - Error during burn
Before you start uninstalling Nero willy-nilly, just be aware that the only Nero component that would need uninstalling is InCD which operates as I described above. In the bad old days (Nero version 6 and earlier), InCD was installed automatically, and caused the problem described. The only way round it was to totally uninstall InCD, but NOT the entire Nero suite. More recent versions of Nero acknowledged the problem, and now InCD is not installed by default when you install Nero, though you still choose to install it in a Custom installation. And it still causes the problem, as does the equivalent module in the Roxio suite (and a number of other similar programs) -- though Roxio allows you to temporarily disable it...

Re: VideoStudio X4 Pro - Error during burn
Thanks for the sugegstions guys. I took a look at both boxes for anything Nero...
On the Dell Inspiron Zino HD box I'm now using to test this on, it does not have any Nero software loaded on it. The only DVD mastering software it has loaded on it is from Microsoft...Windows DVD Maker and that came with the Win 7 Ultimate x64 OS. This box has zero third-party software on it with one exception, software to sync a Samsung cell. All other apps are hosted by an SBS 2008 domain controller server of which this box is a client.
On my development box (Shuttle), it has Nero Essentials 7 on it and that was a third-party preload that came with the system. I do not see InCD though. What is the physical filename of this component as they may have changed its shortcut name, but left the filename the same? Below is an image of the Nero shortcuts on the program menu of this box in case you see something that catches your eye:

Re: VideoStudio X4 Pro - Error during burn
If you have InCD, it shows up as a separate program in Control Panel > Programs and Features under 'Nero', and as far as I am aware, it always appears as InCD in the file names and everything else...

Ken, the image below is what my dev box has in the Control Panel. I also did a search for any filename combination of InCD and none was found:
The Nero BurnRights applet is currently set to "Everyone has burn rights".

Re: VideoStudio X4 Pro - Error during burn
No. You need to click on Programs and Features on that screen, then all your installed programs will be listed alphabetically. You then scroll down to to N for Nero and check if it has "Nero InCD" listed... and check in I for InCD as well, just in case... If it's not there, then it's not installed on your computer and hence not the villain...

Re: VideoStudio X4 Pro - Error during burn
Helps if you read things thoroughly. Sorry about that Ken as I know to do this.
InCD is not installed. I did a pretty thorough check when you first mentioned it earlier, including looking in Programs and Features as well as a wildcarded filename search, and nada, nothing, zip. I think on this box, my development box, there is a definite software or settings conflict. Like I mentioend before, I have several IDEs for several dev languages, SDKs, testing tools, and a whole lot of third-party software on it, so I've moved on to the other box...
For me the issue now is why is it not working on my no-frills client box (Dell Inspiron Zino HD, AMD Athlon II P340 Dual-Core, 6GB RAM, Win-7 Ultimate X64). It does not have any Nero software loaded on it. The only DVD mastering software it has loaded on it is from Microsoft...Windows DVD Maker and that came with the Win 7 Ultimate x64 OS. Seems like I have caused more problems than I cured but I did say
I did not recommend uninstalling anything "Willy Nilly" I was just reporting my experience!!so it was Nero causing the problem for me. I don't use it anyway. Always found Burn Aware Free so much better!
