Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0 Trial Install fails
Hi, I have tried installing Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0 Trial on two machines, both
Windows 2000 Pro, with SP4 and latest windows updates.
Before I get into the install problems, I'd like to know if I'm wasting my time with the product.
I want to be able to master DVDs onto DVD-ram. I have both a DVD-ram burner, and a DVD player that will use them. I also want to be able to write to the DVD-ram in DVD-VR format so I can load edited videos back on my camera. Everything I've read about MediaStudio Pro says I can do this. Thank you for your time.
INSTALL PROBLEM
Both failed with the following:
I get a window that says Internal Failure
Error Number: 0x80040707
Description:
OK
after clicking OK, I get a window titled
Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0 Trial
An error (-5011 : 0x80040707) has occurred while running the setup
Please make sure you have finnished any previous setup and closed other applications.
If the error still occurs, pleas contackt your vendor: Ulead Systems.
I then click on Details> and see the following:
Error Code: -5011 : 0x80040707
Error Information:
>Kernel\TextSubstitution.cpp (292)
>Ctor\ObjectWrapper.cpp (187)
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (494)
$7.0.100.1342
@Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (2195) IE 6.0.2800.1106
I have read the FAQ, and have downloaded this trial several times, and get the same results each time.

Never have heard about a problem like yours.
What kind of Hardware you are using ?
If Hyperthreading is supported from your hardware, you should try to switch it off during installation.
It seems, there are some rests of unfinished earlier installations MSP (and perhaps other software) which should be deleted.
Do you have full Administration rights during installation ?

Dell OptiPlex GX270 3 ghz P4, 512K Cache, hyperthread off, ATA 80gig,
Gigabit NIC, 800 Front Side Bus, 512MB, Non-ECC, 400MHz DDR, 2x256,
Intel DVMT video card(integrated), NTFS File System.
My user ID is a member of the Power User, and Administrator groups.
I have installed and removed many other products from this system,
the Video Studio 8 would cause it to reboot at certain point.
I'll make sure the Hyperthreading is off, but I never noticed that W2k Pro would support it.

Hyperthreading bug should resolved in MSP 7.2 Update - the Trial base on 7.0
My experience with different video and audio software (especially if something from Vegas or Roxio was installed) that there will stay over some rests which disturbs many other video applications.
In some cases it may be helpful to deinstall and reinstall Windows Mediaplayer and/or Quicktime, waht "cleans up" in some cases the system.
Basicly it may be a good idea to freeze a full functional copy the system state with an image of the used partition. That is not comparable with the internal Windows system recovery functions.

I think the Windows Installer software included in Windows 2000 should be the problem because it has some bugs and might not be compatible with some programs. The problem is Microsoft's and MS has announced an new Windows Installer version to fix it.
Please go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en to download the latest Windows Installer software from Microsoft.
If you are using Windows XP and Windows XP SP1, please also download this update. If you are using Windows XP SP2, then you do not need it because it's already included in Windows XP SP2.
Hope this helps.

Unzip it...
Hi,
The update that htchien links will probably help
If it doesn't, I had a similar problem, and resolved it by unzipping the file to a folder, and then running the setup from the folder. It sounds weird, but it actually might unzip even though it isn't labeled as a .zip file...

Same Problem but not with Trial
I have the same problem, but I'm trying to install the MediaStudio Pro upgrade I just purchased. I've tried the Windows installer upgrade. Doesn't work. I've tried upzipping the install with Winzip, but it won't unzip it. I've tried installing with all anti-virus and other TSRs off. No dice. Anyone have any other ideas?

Check http://www.ulead.com/tech/msp/msp70faq. ... n_download and http://www.ulead.com/tech/faq/install_faq.htm#1 to see if it fixes.
If your MSP Upgrade is an download ESD version, the download installer file of MSP Upgrade might be corrupted because of the Internet traffic quality and you will need to request to download the installer file again. You can check that the download was complete by comparing the downloaded file size with the correct file size described on the download Web page.
Before installation, please clean up your temp folder i.e. C:\Windows\Temp folder (or C:\Documents and Settings\Your Account\Local Settings\Temp folder for Windows NT\2000\XP.) Please make sure that your system drive has enough free disk space for the download.
If these do not fix, please contact Ulead Tech Support and describe your problem in details to them.
I think you will get faster response if you phone them.
Hope this helps.

was able to install!
Thank you, I unziped the trial install file and was able to install the product.
One of the big reasons I was looking to trial this product is that I wanted to be able to take mpegs that I have and send them back to the dvr on a dvd-ram disk, and pull them back into the set top unit. Am I barking up the wrong tree to want to use Media Studio?
For everything but the writing back to the DVD-RAM video studio 8 works fine.
Thank you for your help

How?
How did you unzip it? I've tried WinZip and it won't unzip the self-extracting executable.
I've been told now about 20 (literally) different "causes" of this problem. I've tried them all and nothing works. This is RIDICULOUS. Never in my 20 years of PC computing have I EVER had a program refuse to install with an installer error. The Ulead Tech Support guy has told me now about 10 things to try, even sending me a link to the full install for VideoStudio 7 because he said the MediaStudio Pro install I'm using won't upgrade VideoStudio 8. (Btw, I get the SAME ERROR trying to install the VideoStudio 7 installer -- go figure). This has been going on for over a week now, I'm still out $300 (I paid for the HD plugin -- my whole reason for wanting this software in the first place). I've even requested a refund so I can go buy Adobe 1.5 and Aspect HD and BEEN TOTALLY IGNORED EVERYTIME I MENTION REFUND. Oh well. At least I know a good LAWYER to get involved if I can't get their attention. YOU LISTENING ULEAD????

Dear, I think you can request the Ulead Tech Support guy to send you the CD version if you still cannot download and install the download version correctly.
Hope this helps.

That's Customer Service!
Yep, well your attitude is typical of customer service in general nowadays so it doesn't surprise me. My PC's problem? I sincerely hope you don't work for Ulead. I'm sitting here with $300 worth of useless download and your "solution" is to try to install it on another machine and if it works there then I'm SOL? We'll see about that...
