burger transition in vx4, and duplicates in Library window

Post by ajfudge »

Hi. I asked a moderator regarding this and he suggested that I make a post so that everyone can benefit from the result of your feedback.

So here goes.
I have read from the older posts about Burgers Transition. I was curious so I visited the site and downloaded all the transitions that was there on the site.
Prior to installing the transitions, I was aware that:
1) The latest update of the transitions are compatible with Ulead in 2007. There was no mention about it working with VSP X4 or any of the VideoStudio Pro versions.
2) The transitions are free to download and I like them, so I thought there's no harm in challenging my luck.

There were 2 ways to download and install the transitions plugins:
1) individual .vfx files (The instruction from the site is to simply copy this to the "Vfx_plug" folder inside the installation directory of Ulead)
2) an .exe file that installs all the transition plugins inside the Ulead folder automatically

The first method I did was to copy the individual .vfx files into the Vfx_plug folder.
(I should mention also that the default filename of each plugin is burger1.vfx, burger2.vfx ... which I renamed so it corresponds to their actual title. Also, after I copying them, the files now have a lock icon.)
Then I opened VSP X4 and clicked on the transition button to check if it detected the plugins that I copied. Unfortunately, the burgers transition did not appear but I noticed that opened slower and the transitions that are already there are duplicated.
So I removed the burgers transition and closed VSP X4 and went on to do the next method.

I ran the .exe and as expected it created its own installation folder.
As I understood it, in the past the .exe installer can automatically detect the Uleadsystem folder and install all the plugins there, but it cannot detect VSP X4 so I copied them again to the "Vfx_plug" folder. The default filename is still burger1.vfx, burger2.vfx... etc. but this time I didn't rename them.
Then I opened VSP X4, clicked on the transition button (still opening slower than usual) and there the burgers transitions finally appeared. But the other transitions still have duplicates in the window.
(Then I closed VSP X4 and uninstalled the .exe but I retained the copies in the Vfx_plug folder.)

Here are some screenshots so you get what I mean:

This is the burger transitions. Weird. They don't have duplicates. I also noticed that "My favorites" and "Wipe" category don't show duplicates.

This is All the transitions. Notice that "Arrow" and "Bar" have multiple copies. I also noticed that the burger transitions are absent in "All" category.

I checked my Vft_plug folder and there are no duplicated files. The " phantom duplicates" only occur in the transition window. So what I want to ask you guys is this: how do I make those duplicates disappear?

I probably should expect you to say that the burger transitions are not compatible in VSP X4. But I tested them and they actually work fine although slow and lagging. And I just can't easily let go of this free stuff.
Meanwhile, the pre-installed transitions are working fine and quick.

To anyone who's interested in trying burger transition, it's best if you download the .exe package, but I wouldn't advise that you do it not until its issues are all ironed out smoothly with VSP X4 (which I don't think will come soon because it's been years since the last update. I'll try to contact the author too if it helps).

Here's hoping that I explained everything clearly and that someone provide helpful tip. :) I also hope that I can avoid reinstalling. By the way, is it just me or "repair" installing is not really possible? i was aiming to do this before when I experienced minor errors, but the only options I got is uninstall, so eventually I reinstalled VSP X4 from a clean slate and I don't want to do that again

Thank you for contributing that information. :)

In regards to duplicates appearing, that is from multiple install attempts with various plug-ins. I've had this happen with New Blue FX. The remedy is to navigate to C:\Users\Ron\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\14.0 and rename the 14.0 folder, or you can delete it. I recommend renaming it first, just in case things don't go according to plan. Then launch VS again, and it will rebuild that folder correctly.

Note, if you have any personal libraries, Back them up first, as you will loose them. Also the name in red in the above file path, would be replaced with whatever user name you have.

Wow. For a long post, that's a relatively easy solution. :)
So I did what you instructed and it fixed the problem.
The burger transitions are now working quickly (no more lags) and it even showed up in "All" category.
Thank you, sir! :)

Now pardon me if I'm going to digress a little to a similar topic.
This is regarding the NewBlue Fx. When I use one of the NewBlue filters, a popup window shows up that I need to register.
I don't recall having experienced that in VSP X3. I wonder, is the NewBlue Fx that comes with VSP X4 a trialware?

Which specific New Blue FX? Is it in the Video FIlters, or is it one that has been applied to an Instant Project template? The ones included with VS, in the video filters, should not require registering. I did however just discover the NB Sampler Pack transitions that come with VS X4, request registration. So click on the register button, complete your name and email addy, that's all, and your good to go.
